Here are the highlights from the last Music Industry News bulletin, if you would like to see the full bulletin, flick through an email and I'll send it your way.

Talent Search for Pasifika Festival 2006

Up and coming performers are invited to audition on Saturday 26 November for next year's Pasifika Festival.

The audition - called 'Expressions Pasifika' - is a chance for performers to show the judges why they should be performing at next year's festival.

Audition application forms can be downloaded from http://www.aucklandcity.govt.nz/whatson/events/pasifika/ or by contacting Rick Tuiasau on (09) 353 9533.

All contestants will be given a scheduled audition time on receipt of a fully completed application form.

Expressions Pasifika - Auditions:
Date: Saturday 26 November
Time: 10am - 6pm
Location: Mt Roskill War Memorial Hall, 13 May Road, Mt Roskill.

The Pasifika Festival 2006 will be held at Western Springs Stadium and lakeside on 10 and 11 March 2006.

Writing Musician Course

Now you can learn basic or complex music composing and arranging techniques in Auckland.

Start: Monday 31st October 2005
Each of the three stages are held Mondays and Thursdays (6.30pm - 8.30pm) over 3 weeks.

Stage 1 ($450) for people with little or no theory.

Study scales and harmony up to four part chords and write for drums and the bass.

Stage 2 ($600)

Write for and have played at the next session, music for flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet and trombone. The jazz/rock horns night is a highlight!

Stage 3 ($750)

French horn, voices and strings. The harmony is advanced at this stage. The group situation enables students to hear their music played and creates valuable dialogue and interaction.

Musician Workshops in Wellington

Acoustic Routes - The Wellington Folk Centre Inc. will be running a series of workshops to increase confidence in performance. The workshops are aimed at helping people towards performing floor spots and short concert sets.

They will cover instrument technique, extending your performance range and style and on-stage presentation. There will be a series of nine workshops covering: singing - solo and in harmony whistle fiddle guitar - for beginner performers and the more experienced accompaniment, chords and arrangement using sound equipment.

The workshops will be held on Saturday afternoons.

Location: Wellington Arts Centre, 67 Abel Smith St, Wellington
Dates: 5 to 26 November 2005 and 11 February to 11 March 2006. Admission: $20 per workshop ($15 for club members and CSS card holders).
Workshops will be limited to 20 participants each.

Phantom Billstickers are looking for someone to place posters, fliers and postcards into Cafes and retail outlets in the Hamilton area. This position has flexible hours and would generally be on a part time basis. Own transport is required.

The Groove Guide looking for new contributors

The Groove Guide, NZ's weekly music magazine, is looking for new contributors to join our team, right across the country. We have grown to a massive 32 full colour gloss pages and want to get more people involved in what we are doing. We need people to review gigs, CDs, movies and DVDs, as well as doing interviews with nationally and internationally recognised musicians and DJs.

We are also interested in hearing from people who have good ideas for a regular column. The work will not be paid, but this would be very good experience for anyone looking at getting into music writing. For any reviews, the writer will get to keep the product they are reviewing, and double pass tickets to gigs and movies for review will also be free.

This is a call for entries in Edition 14 of the NZ Music Services Directory. Deadline for listings and advertising bookings is 20th October 2005. A standard listing costs $20 inclusive of GST. For your $20 you get a listing in Edition 14, plus a copy of the publication posted to you on release, and your listing gets published in the cyber edition with active links and email addresses for the year 2006.
