Is there an emo scene over there in NZ?
Posted: Wed Feb 16, 2005 12:32 pm
Or even scenesters? I've always wondered about that. I didn't hear any emo or screamo music the last time I was over there. Didn't see any emos either. Is the emo scene strictly a north american deal?

i'd classify Alkaline trio, My Chemical Romance, The Used, Funeral for a Friend... those kinda bands... as emo.
I like emo but i havn't met anyone in NZ that likes these bands.

haha that's so isn't emo....

We have a few emo bands I guess. I wouldn't want to name any though. Specifically, I don't think there are any nz bands that fit the stereotypical emo genre but there are heaps of kids who look like emo kids or there are heaps of kids who like emo and go to hardcore shows or punk shows.

Yeah, emo is about the music, mood, and the style.....

Music--Taking Back Sunday, Thursday, My chemical romance, funeral for a friend, dashboard confessionals, the used, brand new, ect... and screamo music like Hawthorne heights, silverstein, norma jean, the blood brothers, ect....

Mood---Insecure, emotion, really metrosexual (but thats cus of their insecurites and the emo style...)

Style---Umm, it can range from a nerdish look to a punkish metrosexual look......So hair would be long angled bangs or just extremly long bangs (straightend) with a pretty short cut back or an overall straight shaggy texture of hair. The hair is always beautiful and perfect, almost to the point where you start questioning their sexuality...same goes with their clothing style. Emo guys are basically just really pretty boys...ha yeah its the best way to describe them

So are there emos like that in NZ? I've grown up around them so much here I don't think I could bear to not have them around

oi emo? I've never heard of that one before.....theres definatly no oi in emo.....

very true, emo is great in small doses....The only kind I like is the emo/screamo kind like my chemial romance, taking back sunday and those other kinds.......Brand new, dashboard confessionals, and most other emo bans are too whiny for my taste

Yeah, Rooney and phatom planet are slightly emo....but not very good emo.....but the different kind of sound that MCR and the used have that your referring to is screamo......the best emo has screamo in it

I can never find any CDs by the bands I like, so I buy most CDs through Amazon. Heaps of companies sell CDs through Amazon, so it's way cheaper than buying CDs in NZ. It usually takes about 3 weeks for the CD to ship from the US, but I think it's worth it!
I just checked on Amazon and Three cheers for sweet revenge by MRC (new) costs US$10.83, which is NZ$21.90, including shipping. All because the NZ dollar is so high at the mo. Very Happy
