Yeah it was just like watching Live at Budokan all over again.

"Let me see you go fucking crazy"

"Louder, louder"

"I can't hear you"

All that jazz, but I never in my life thought I'd see Ozzy and Zak Wylde performing War Pigs live, that was fucking mean!

He played a good set.
God there were some muppets there though.

Hey does anyone know who that band was who played in the intervals that had the female opera singer?

Did Whitesnake do any Coverdale-era Deep Purple?

Cuz I'd expect them to at least play BURN or STORMBRINGER.

Coverdale is a great vocalist.

Whitesnake played Burn-Stormbringer (medley type thing) in sound check and it was ABSOLOUTELY awesome! But due to time constraints they couldn't play it on the night (it was to be their encore). So that was annoying.
Did anyone catch my band Sonic Altar? Up on the left stage. Whatd you think?
Ozzy was incredible (especially if you watch any youtube videos from last year). I met him before he walked on stage and he was so happy and friendly. What a legend.

Probably too early to tell! There were rumours floating around just before Rock2Wgtn that it was a huge flop and that the promoter had made a huge loss on it. Not sure whether any of that is true or not.

What we can say, however, is that everyone that went thoroughly enjoyed themselves. None of that "worst ever" carry-on that was being thrown about after BDO this year.

I hope they do hold something like this in the future though, maybe not next year, but in two years time.

I guess the rumours were true after all...

Rock promoter blames Easter laws for loss

Hard-rocking promoter Phil Sprey is facing a potential $750,000 loss after a shortage of fans at his Wellinton metal festival, Rock2Wgtn.

Blaming Easter Laughing

Uuum, the promotor chose Easter Weekend, knowing about Easter trading laws.

Wow, epic fail!

Add to that, you've got rising living and petrol costs, luxuries such as rock gigs are things not everybody can afford anymore... I missed out on Queens of the Stone Age in ChCh because I just couldn't justify $120 on one band, even if I really love them Sad

It's not that the lineup was that bad, I just think some more relevant bands could have been chosen. Too much cheese. And I like cheese. But bands like Poison are beyond being cheesy-cool, just cheesy-tacky-and-sad. Same for Kiss... beyond the cool stage theatrics, let's face it, their songs are really quite terrible Laughing

Alice & Ozzy were really the only bands who hold that "legend" status that is truely deserved (in my humble opinion).

Screw petrol and living costs and all that. Screw anything like that. It's all just excuses. Especially when a gathering of such names are in NZ on two nights. Something you'd have to pay mega bucks for to fly overseas to see.
That's what I didn't get.... $125 - $250 per night for tickets, then accomodation etc... That's still cheaper than flying to Europe or the US to see such a fest.
The simple sad fact is: New Zealand is full of lame hard up doll bludgers who'd rather watch a repeat episode of Seinfeld than attend the biggest rockfest to ever come to NZ. Or maybe there was a Deal or No Deal 3 hour special on that night or something. I commend Phil Sprey for what he did, it wasn't just a rock show... All the weta stuff and the extra mile taken to make it something special really changed the atmosphere and made it a whole different experience.
I find it sad that they were virtually giving tickets away and still not enough people came. What the heck!?
Now if Rap2Wgtn was put on... That'd be a different kettle of fish.
I'm tired of how things are looking here with music and support.
You see all this "BUY MADE IN NZ STUFF" and patriotic ads everywhere, yet at the NZ bands press conference the only 2 people there asking questions and taking notes were 2 foreign guys from independent magazines. And funnily enough their questions were something familiar of this "So why is it that the New Zealand media don't seem to give a flaming terd that you exist?" To which one can only reply, "Because theres a cat in a tree and thats apparently that makes better news".
Then on TV3, Farrier complained about the boring press conference... And that KISS didn't turn up. He also made a point of making us all look rather foolish.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ef3FhlE4yMM

The event was amazing. I of course liked some bands more than others but it was still cheap considering how long the memory will last.

Oh and I met Ozzy and Zakk so that made it way cooler.

Thank you very much, expert.

"Just excuces".... yeah, but they're GOOD excuces. I'm not forking out two weeks wages for some nostalgia bands whose CD's I don't (and never will) own... even Ozzy... (first four Sabbath albums are all I need).

Nope. Crap lineup = crap turnout.

I'd still rather fork out twice that much, travel overseas and see a truely awesome band than pay that amount for several bands who did some singles I remember from when I was a kid.

That TV show is just a means to generate interest in him again because Poison are (along with a lot of other bands) touring again... simply because the music itself just won't cut it.

Even back when I was into poser hair bands in the 80's (GNR, Def Leppard etc), Poison were looked down on as a girly plastic pop metal act... now THAT'S saying something.

I don't want to sound completely ungrateful, I'm glad somebody has the knowhow and gumption to take on something as huge as organising an event like this.

I just think it's a little out of touch with the "rock crowd" he was gunning for.

I'd be interested to see what may happen in the future. There'll be lessons learned this time around, as always is the case with festivals.

/end grumpy old rock fan rant

not a single person that i have spoken to that went to the gig didn't have the time of their lives, everyone loved it. myself especially! i thought that every band that played was fucking amazing in their own way (and i was'nt on anything). the reason the promoters lost money wasn't purly because of a shit turnout it was also because they put such a huge amount of effort into the show itself. i hope that they do have another similar event coz i would deffinatly fork out that much money again for a show like that (and im an exceptionally broke uni student)

oh and about this tv show sh!t lets not forget that it aint just poison thats doing it, ozzy, gene, even hulk hogan and snoop dogg ffs. i think that for the musicains its another way to gain a new fan base that they otherwise wouldn't be able to reach and yes its tacky but if the music is still there then there is nothing to complain about
