There are rumours abound that TLBT has decided to go their seperate ways. I see that they have been removed from the bill at the Paihia NYE gig. If anyone has anymore info on this tragic occurence let the rest of us know. TLBT were without a doubt one of nz's most promising bands. R.I.P. TLBT.

Does anyone actually know the film Two lane Blacktop which stars the very hot James Taylor and that guy from The Beach Boys? i have never seen it. I take it that the band took their name from the cult film?.

Hey Jono.

yes unfortunately, Two Lane have split up.

It had been on the cards for quite some time. and it finally came to an end.. there are two sides, and two fairly different versions to why they broke up... both of which I will not discuss.

Fans knew something was up, when all American shows were cancelled. and the video with Style Warz was scrapped, then when Matt left the stage at the last ever Two Lane show, when they opened for Meterman on Halloween... that was the end..

they organised to open for Modey Lemon, on their Australian tour, but backed out of that, and took a fine for it as well, and like you mentioned have now also drawn out of the Paihia NY show.

it's a real shame, they were one of my favourite bands, and they had a very bright future (they were fielding offers from Australian and American record companies, but had to turn them down due to conflict within the band)

Pip has since gone to Australia, and doesn't know when she'll come back, Phil is starting a band with Julia (Lead guitar, Batrider), there a rumours Matt will be singing for a less full time band in Wellington. and Luke, I'm not sure about..

it's a damn shame. rest in Peace TLBT.. an excellent bunch of people. and all very talented, I wish them all the best.

and folkfreak. yes they were named after the movie you speak of.. if you manage to source a photo of the band Two Lane Blacktop and compare it to the cover of the film, you may notice how similar they all look, in particular Pip, it's scary...

TLBT wrote ALL their songs about cult films.

and here's the story from www.Infidelity.com.au

TLBT run off the road...

Shocked fans listened to the announcement
...personal differences...persistent rumours...
gone their seperate ways...taking a break...
sexiest man alive...cracks in the relationship
...breaking up is hard to do...do not try to
break up fights on your own...love does not
hurt...become separated into pieces or
fragments...love should make you feel happy,
secure and appreciated...separate into parts
or portions...break, break up, carve, carve up,
come apart, dissever, divide, fall apart, part,
separate, split, split up, stock split...tantrums
were thrown around the world.

Take your pick, but in what amounts to
"dramatic circumstance" Two Lane Black Top
have called it a day and will NOT be supporting
thee worlds greatest power trio (MODEY LEMON)
on their upcoming Australian tour...shame that!

Such a pity. What a great live band, I saw them twice & had an incredibly enjoyable time. They were very nice people too, I wish them all luck with future projects.
Their spirit will live on in my Mechanic demo.
