in terms of sales and fame no new zealand act can compete with the world acts but from my experience, from bands i have seen/heard here in terms of musical ability NZ has some fine world-class talent.

I have no doubt that NZ has some really talented musicians and if you were to include that person in your band fine, you do that. But come on man, you all at the same time? Perhaps multi-track recording but remember part of what makes a band good is their live show and not just the CD's they release. And no it's not just a "head trip" its NZ music sometimes being so overhyped by people that we don't know where to draw the line. What is the point in making everything to do with music 'NZ only'? We are then blocking ourselves from the world and not competing against the talent that's truly out there.

As for your music, i hope it goes well, i just want you to realise that the NZ music scene in reality is nothing more than a stepping stone.

(I'd be keen to get back onto the orignal topic again now. A new thread to do with NZ's stature in music etc. could always be started if it's that interesting to people...)

along time ago the world was flat and men were scared to travel too far incase they fell off

for many years the four minute mile was classed as an impossibility til one man broke through and the following year 70 + more ran under that four minute mile

look what Peter Jacksons done for NZ cinima it would only take a few more peter jacksons to spring up in NZ and wed be it.

There is a change happening - new artists are emerging - NZ Music is starting to get noticed - its just a matter of time - dont give up Peter Jackson didn't.

I dont think anyone should limit things to nz music only! There is much to learn from overseas bands and a lot of them are really cool.

Julius is a solo artist and will be forming a band in near future -He just likes to do things backwards - why - because he can!!

As is so often the case, a thread which begins with so many interesting possibilities, so quickly degenerates.
Many posts of interest go completely unnoticed, or commented upon.
I shall not even bother making one.

Yeah ok i think all's been said that needs to be said. 'mozart' makes a valid point and i agree that getting back on topic would be a good plan.

Stand-up bass: Kim Nekroman (Nekromantix)

Julius is cool and witty on many many many various levels, not to mention hilariously funny with his puns...

neways, my dream band wud be...

vocals - julian casablancas (strokes)
rythmn guitar - pete doherty (babyshambles/libertines)
lead guitar - mick taylor (ex rolling stone)
bass - jarrod followill (kings of leon)
drums - JULIUS (the julius experience)

i tried to have every member from a different band, thus is why julius is only playing the drums... Crying
p.s anyone who talks to third person about themselves is definately cool!

I agree, Grohls drumming in Songs For The Deaf was really cool and unique, well I thought it was anyway.

Either him or Taylor Hawkins on drums.

Infact if you fused the players of each instrument together from QOTSA and Foo Fighters, you'd have one hell of a band.
