This post isn't really about anything. I just thought I'd jump on the bandwagon of posts about rap music.

rap and hip hop both suck and are only for idiots who cant play instruments and stupid little boys who dream about being 'big tiff' american gang bangers...

shame they dont realise that gang bangers only join gangs to compensate for their penis envy...

get over it and listen to real music

Opinions, opinions and more opinions. Some people get so worked up over nothing in some of these posts. In my "opinion" unless something is downright offensive then there's usually no point arguing it out with someone, sometimes best to agree to disagree.

Saying rap and hiphop are crap or whatever expletive you want to use is a gross generalisation. Fugee's are good, Missy Elliot is just a fat talentless skank, King Kapisi is good, Scribe is just a big nosed full of crap no-talent bum. I'm by no means a rap or hiphop expert or fan but I can appreciate any kind of music if it's done well.

Take the Datsuns for instance, they are neither unique or original but they do what they do really farking well and that's why people like them.

Is this forum just a place for angry boguns? Are there other music forums where people are more accepting of music in its various guises?

Not sure about that one Blend, seems the maturity levels are a bit of a problem. Someone just called me a homey?! Based on what?! The fact that I'm not negative about everything?!

It would seem that unless you’re strapping a guitar over your shoulder and nailing huge solos that you’re comments are not worthy on this forum. Strikes me that people here are either metal/rock heads with the curtains drawn so they cannot see outside their morbid little world or just children.

So if speaking up for hip hop, or any genre that ain’t metal or rock, means you’re apparently wearing baggy pants and throwing ‘ya hands in the air’ then so be it. At least these people will be looking fly.

Well I can play guitar, bass, banjo, mandolin, drums, program a drum machine, use a sampler and I'm a pretty dab hand at both live and studio engineering. Being that I'm probably one of the only actual musicians that have posted in this thread I think it's a joke that people think they can pass judgement on me based on my open mindedness.

Like you said, probably just kids. Besides, I need baggy pants to house my enourmous cock!

Astounding amount of intelligence, maturity and originality in that statement.

Man, I wish I could start a phase which has been popular for over 20 years.

Dude, I think Noah was using that one when they were arguing about what two CD's they were going to take on the Ark!

adrian i am also a musician
and i dont like making generalisations
i dont like being generalised either
i agree with what you say thats whoyou are and i admire you being able to stand up for yourself
but some people have their opinions also
but i dont think its fair to assume that adrian wears baggy pants and waves his hand about whenever he speak thats just silly and not making any kind of point what soever
so lets keep it on the subject and have a nice clean valid intellectual discussion please

Since when has any one genre had the moral high ground because of its lyrics?

Many punk outfits are whining about first kisses and losing their virginity while metal is screaming about wanting to rip people's organs out and seems to me, personal opinion of course, to be about the singer's insecurities of being misunderstood a lot of the time. Then there's pop and I haven't actually taken in a pop lyric for sometime now, but I'm doubtful there's much to take home there...might be wrong. Who knows?

If you think about it, there really isn't a lot being said by music as a whole... it's an outlet for expression. If you decide to express your need to bang bitches and pop caps rather than third world debt and global warming so be it...

King Kapisi writes lyrics about problems faced by Pacific island nations, namely Samoa. Issues like the iron hand the Church has over pacific islanders who give up a significant portion of an already significantly small income, or about immigration issues. Hardly think I would class this is uintelligent, then again depends on your point of view.

Good point by blend though, doesn't matter what genre of music we're talking about, there's always going to be "stupid" songs. Social comment can be about anything. As I said from the start, all just opinions...but at least mine are backed up by examples.
