Band & Musician News - Kiwi indie rockers Daily J drop hard and fast banger ‘Black Lagoon’

Kiwi indie rockers Daily J drop hard and fast banger ‘Black Lagoon’

15 March 2019 - 0 Comments

Indie rockers Daily J have today released their latest single Black Lagoon.

Spotify / iTunes / Apple Music

A hard and fast banger, with a highly addictive chorus, chaotic indie-pop-rock beats and velvet melodies, Black Lagoon establishes the ‘band of brothers, and a drummer from another mother’ as ‘an act to watch’ on the Kiwi music scene.

The Arctic Monkeys-inspired track reminisces on the ghostly presence of old hotel pubs, and perfectly sets the scene of bars once forgotten to the company of an avid reveller only to be replaced by the of strangest patrons.

Black Lagoon was co-written with renowned Kiwi producer Joe Faris, who’s worked with the likes of Ruby Frost, Ruben Crown and The Shambles; and who also makes music under the name Ezra Vine. The song was brought to the life over a few beers on Daily J’s stomping grounds of Omaha beach, in the beautiful Matakana.

The talented four-piece (brothers Jayden on vocals/guitar; Jesse on sax/keys; Jonny on bass and their mate Rick on drums) who originally hail from Blenheim, have been on a winning streak since the 2017 release of their debut EP, The Other Side, which included the hit single Space. The song has clocked up more than 160,000 streams on Spotify and is a firm fixture in Daily J’s energetic live set.

And as luck would have it, you can catch Daily J playing live this Saturday, March 16 at the Leigh Sawmill Cafe north of Auckland. Click here for more info.

The indie rockers are giving fans a taste of what’s to come on their second EP, with first single By The Sea - which you may recognise as having been the landing song on Air New Zealand flights throughout the month of February - and now the stonking brand new Black Lagoon.

It lays the foundations for an exciting year ahead for Daily J and leaves no room for doubt - this is a band on their way up, with their sights set on great things.
