Band & Musician News - A Novemeber #1 for Little Oceans on theaudience.co.nz

A Novemeber #1 for Little Oceans on theaudience.co.nz

04 December 2012 - 0 Comments

Nelson-based band Little Oceans are set to take home the last NZ On Air Wildcard grant for 2012, after finishing in the #1 position on theaudience.co.nz Wildcard Chart for November.

The musical project of Matthew Johnston, Josh Edmonds and Sam Edmonds, Little Oceans finished at #7 on the unreleased chart for October, with their track ‘Illuminated’. Inspired by how close they’d come the band uploaded a new track for the November chart month, and ‘Focus Harder’ with its energetic punk-pop sensibilities has secured them the NZ On Air Making Tracks Wildcard funding – listen to their winning track here.

“We're pretty stoked,” says Josh Edmonds of the win. “It's a big break for us and we're starting to gather some momentum.”

Little Oceans is the sixth recipient of the NZ On Air Wild Card Making Tracks funding and the last grant to be awarded for 2012. Like Making Tracks, the NZ On Air Wildcard funding takes a two-month break over December / January but will be back for 2013 in February.

NZ On Air Music Manager Brendan Smyth is thrilled with the success of theaudience.co.nz website so far and the introduction of the Making Tracks Wildcard opportunity this year.

“It was a bold initiative but the traffic on the site along with the diversity of new artists and new music being showcased on the site tells us that it’s working. Our congratulations to the team at theaudience for making it work a treat and our congratulations to the six Wildcards as well.”

To ensure the website keeps up its push for music discovery, theaudience.co.nz have come to the party and created their very own theaudience.co.nz Recording Grant, which will run over December / January.

Following the Making Tracks model theaudience.co.nz will award the December / January #1 artist with a day’s recording at Roundhead Studios in Auckland, a video directed by multi-award winning photographer and director Mat Baker, as well as mastering by Chris Chetland at Kog.
