“We wanted to make a statement and offer something a little different amongst the masses of bands releasing music,” says East York guitarist/producer Daz Coppins.

Origins features new focus single, Devil You Know, which showcases the heavy trademark East York sound.

Devil You Know is heavy rock, groove laden and hooky! We naturally lean towards a heavier rock vibe with guitars and big drums in the forefront, then with TK's vocals effortlessly easing between guttural scream and three part harmony. We feel we bring something unique and fresh to the genre, while remaining honest and true to our creative selves,” says Daz.

The other new track on the EP, King of Persuasioncame to fruition when Daz was listening to a lot of Bring Me The Horizon, which is where the idea for the riffs came from.

“Since we couldn't all be together when Tarquin recorded the vocals, he asked his neighbour to jump in on the vocals and he smashed it too. One of my favourite parts in this song is the bass line in the bridge breakdown, E-Rock came up with some magic here for sure.”

Vocalist Tarquin Keys adds; "The lyrics are essentially suggesting we put aside our differences and begin to listen, and in turn start to find a greater understanding of one another....only delivered in a slightly aggressive way.”

East York is a 4-piece band who currently split their time between New Zealand and Australia. The band consists of Bay Of Plenty’s Daz Coppins (Guitar) and Tarquin Keys (Vocals); Palmerston North’s Zane Rosanoski (Drums) and Toronto’s (Canada) Eric Boucher (Bass). KeysRosanoski and Boucher are currently based in Melbourne, while Coppins is based in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand.

Written and produced by the whole band, the Origins EP was recorded by Tom Larkin (Shihadand Jon Grace at the legendary Home Surgery Studio in Melbourne.

From writing the EP over the interweb to squeezing in recording and video shoots between lockdowns to finally getting radio airplay in their home country New Zealand; the lows of the creation of Origins have been met with euphoric highs, resulting in a body of work the band is extremely proud of.

Unfortunately due to COVID restrictions around borders and three of the band currently residing in Australia, East York have had to cancel their upcoming tour but have their eyes on the horizon for something soon.

“Trying to launch East York in a global pandemic has been challenging, however we are so excited to hit the road and play these songs live,” says Daz.

Turn Origins up and enjoy what the band say “is something that will only add to the soundtrack of life”.
