Band & Musician News - New Release from Navvy 'Rock Bottom'

New Release from Navvy 'Rock Bottom'

13 September 2021 - 0 Comments

Navvy, singer, songwriter and now producer is turning pop music on night mode with groove-inflected, self-produced new single Rock Bottom.

The star of Navvy, poster girl for pioneering a new wave of pop in New Zealand, is truly in ascent after her latest EP No Hard Feelings was released last year. The four-track act was a statement of intent that captured Navvy’s contradictions and complexity, one moment dipping into lullaby-like vulnerability with the lead track Scared To Be Happy, and the next facing feelings head on with a dazzling, completely infectious pop beat with No Hard Feelings.

Navvy’s first new release of 2021 Rock Bottom is the shot of serotonin you’re looking for with a god-given gift for disco grooves. It’s the bounciest track she has released to date and holds the promise of a new direction where you can leave your problems on the dancefloor.

Speaking on the track, Navvy says: “Rock Bottom is a song about knowing that as soon as someone moves on, they aren't going to have any need for you anymore. It's a tough pill to swallow, to realise that a person you spent all your time thinking about/caring for/hanging out with, will now only have a reason to come to you if they are at their lowest possible point.”

Rock Bottom was written with Sony Music wunderkind Rory Adams and LA singer-songwriter Sara Boe. “We had a whole day singing and dancing and writing,” says Navvy. “I produced the track myself, and this is the first time I’ve done that so it was so fun.”

The accompanying video is bathed in neon with a matching dance to boot, it’s three minutes of magic. Choreographed by Kirsten Dodgen, who is part of Parris Goebel’s Royal Family dance crew, as well as the coordinator behind Jennifer Lopez’s halftime show, Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty Show and Justin Bieber’s Sorry music video. The video for Rock Bottom is bound to get you moving. Navvy says: “I haven't ever learnt choreography for a music video before, so to get to do it with the most fun female energy was the greatest joy.”
