Balu Brigada announced as latest Live Nation & Vodafone’s Ones To Watch Feature Artist

19 July 2021 - 0 Comments

Live Nation & Vodafone have today announced Balu Brigada as their newest artist for the Ones To Watch programme, becoming the seventh artist of 2021 to join the celebrated platform, which aims to boost up and coming local musicians.

Self-described as a “groove-pop” duo comprised of multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter/producer brothers Henry and Pierre Beasley, Balu Brigada have established themselves in the Aotearoa music scene. Originally from Auckland, the band have travelled the country delivering their crowd-favourite bops to Kiwis all across the country.

The duo has just released their brand-new song How It Would End, the first song off their upcoming EP, accompanied by a thrilling music video that sees the brothers step into character as two detectives trying to solve the case of a complicated relationship. The single is their debut release as a two-piece, with its bouncy synth hooks and groove-worthy melodies bound to get you up on your feet.

Inspired by musical heavyweights including Frank Ocean and Gorillaz, Balu Brigada are all about experimentation. Their discography provides the perfect backdrop to any setting – from coastal roadtrips, summer BBQs, flirty dancefloor moments and everywhere in between. The band are no stranger to performing, having toured around the country numerous times and treating an exclusive audience at Live Nation & Vodafone’s recent Ones to Watch Showcase.

Live Nation promoter Renee Hermsen comments on the musical duo: “Balu Brigada have a very infectious sound and an awesome synergy on stage, which makes it such a pleasure to watch these brothers perform live. We really look forward to see where that energy will take them next!”

Balu Brigada join the Kiwi Live Nation & Vodafone Ones to Watch family as their ninth artist inducted to the programme, the seventh in 2021. They join an impressive list of alumni, including PollyHill, There’s a Tuesday, Muroki, Paige and more. Launched in 2017 in the United States, Ones To Watch has helped boost the careers of artists now reaching global stages, including Halsey and Dua Lipa.

Live Nation & Vodafone are also set to take their quarterly Ones To Watch showcase on the road, visiting Wellington in August. Featuring all Pōneke-based artists, the showcase will treat an exclusive audience to performances from musicians destined to be the programme's future feature artists.

As Joe Goddard, Experience & Commercial Director at Vodafone NZ says, “Vodafone has a long history of helping Kiwi families do great things, which is why we’re proud to be supporting brothers Harry and Pierre performing as Balu Brigada as the latest Live Nation & Vodafone Ones to Watch artist. We are also super excited to bring the fun of Ones To Watch down to windy Welly with our long-term partner Live Nation.”

After launching an exclusive long-term partnership in 2019, Live Nation Australasia and Vodafone New Zealand have provided Vodafone customers access to Live Nation’s entertainment portfolio including music, family and comedy tours and festivals across the country. The strategic multi-year partnership is committed to bringing the best live experiences to New Zealand and the best New Zealand artists to the world. The unique emerging talent platform of Ones To Watch builds on this strong partnership and a mutual dedication to support grassroots initiatives.

As well as access to the online platform, Vodafone customers will be given the chance to win tickets to the Ones To Watch invitation-only quarterly showcase events. More info and competition details available at: vodafonerewards.co.nz
