Live Nation And Vodafone Announce Psychedelic Indie Five-Piece Daily J As Their June Ones To Watch Act

17 June 2021 - 0 Comments

Joining the ranks as Live Nation and Vodafone New Zealand’s sixth local act for the year, indie rockers Daily J have been announced as the June act for the Ones To Watch programme.

Hailing from the top of the South, Daily J combine the sound of summer with their shared passion for soft psychedelic indie rock to create tunes that have been enjoyed all over New Zealand. Now based in Auckland, the band travelled the 2020/21 summer festival circuit and recently played at the Live Nation & Vodafone Ones to Watch May showcase.

Brothers Jesse and Jayden started as a saxophone and guitar duo competing in the Smokefree Rockquest, even starring on New Zealand’s Got Talent showcasing their skills. Third brother Johnny soon joined on bass, before friends Rick (on drums) and Cody (on guitar) also signed up, turning Daily J into the five-piece band they’re known as today.

Daily J had a killer 2020 despite being in the midst of a global pandemic, with their debut album Venus Ate Mars releasing to glowing reviews. Something Different describes the album as “a strong debut album and an impressive collection of songs,” while NZ Musician says, “collectively this new release is the definition of a pleasant dream-state that will certainly make an ideal backdrop for any 2020/21 summer gathering, unobtrusive but smart.”

Daily J have impressed local promoters, with Live Nation’s Mike Ross saying: Daily J have built a solid Kiwi fan base with their surf rock sound, that turned out in force during their successful national tour last year. We’re excited to help them grow it even further within New Zealand and overseas by showcasing them on Ones to Watch.”

Daily J become the eighth artists in the Kiwi branch of the Live Nation & Vodafone Ones to Watch programme so far, the sixth in 2021. They join an impressive list of Ones to Watch alumni, including PollyHill, There’s a Tuesday, Muroki, Paige and more. Launched in 2017 in the United States, Ones to Watch has helped boost the careers of artists now reaching global stages, including Halsey and Dua Lipa.

Vodafone’s David Redmore said, “I was lucky enough to see Daily J play live recently and they were awesome. Music has always been a balm for the soul, even more so during the challenges of the last year. As passionate Kiwi music fans ourselves, Vodafone is incredibly proud to work alongside our partners Live Nation to help emerging musical talent thrive through the Ones to Watch initiative.”

After launching an exclusive long-term partnership in 2019, Live Nation Australasia and Vodafone New Zealand have provided Vodafone customers access to Live Nation’s entertainment portfolio including music, family and comedy tours and festivals across the country. The strategic multi-year partnership is committed to bringing the best live experiences to New Zealand and the best New Zealand artists to the world. The unique emerging talent platform of Ones To Watch builds on this strong partnership and a mutual dedication to support grassroots initiatives.

As well as access to the online platform, Vodafone customers will be given the chance to win tickets to the Ones To Watch invitation-only quarterly showcase events. More info and competition details available at: vodafonerewards.co.nz
