Otautahi (Christchurch) based musician Emily C. Browning releases her new single I Wasn't Into You Anyway.

Emily's music weaves introspection into rule-breaking earworms, influenced by her love of Motown, neo-soul and music’s greatest songwriters.

Accompanying the song is a clip co-directed by Otautahi based videographer Clowmount and Browning. In the clip Browning takes on the Scoville Meter, downing chilis provided by the spicelords over at SpicyBoys .

The track is drenched in shimmering guitars, sparkling synths and driving irony, with I Wasn’t Into You Anyway subtly revealing that, in a desperate bid for self-preservation, she may or may not have been very much into you anyway.

Drawing on a background of countless LA-industry writing sessions, a degree in jazz, and years of touring guitar work, I Wasn’t Into You Anyway is a playful summary of Emily’s creative journey to date. The song breathes with intoxicating melodies, swimming guitar layers and a driving heartbeat, while the lyrics speak on the common experience of unrequited love. Emily finds the words to describe that knee-jerk reaction we all have when feeling rejected, while keeping the mood light and witty.

Browning comments on the track "Everyday for a month I wrote in my journal: I want to write a song about feeling rejected. But I couldn’t figure out how to keep it light and funny, it can be quite a painful topic and I didn’t want to sound too heavy. But I kept working on it everyday and came up with this song."

"I then spent another month recording it, trying to capture a sound that stayed upbeat and playful. I put so much time and energy into the song that I ended up completely forgetting about the person who rejected me in the first place (honest, I swear)."
