Welly Records Announces a New Single 'Black Man Running' from InDuna

07 July 2020 - 0 Comments

Welly Records is thrilled to announce the release of the latest single from InDuna, Black Man Running, available everywhere on the 31st of July 2020.

Black Man Running is a personal illustration of InDuna’s racial experience. The song’s sonic qualities were influenced by Kendrick Lamar’s Swimming Pool and To Pimp A Butterfly album.

Black Man Running started off as one of many demos that were created in InDuna’s home studio. The potential songs were brought and shown to sound engineer Toby Lloyd from Tiny Triumph Recordings. Black Man Running stood out and was chosen to be developed and recorded. The song grew to become the backbone for InDuna’s upcoming EP.

Although the release of the song seemed to time itself perfectly with the BLM movement, it actually wasn’t influenced by it at all.

Black Man Running was written back in 2019 about my experience as a black young man in South Africa and also New Zealand. At the beginning of the year we had set a release date for this single and it was quite unexpected and surprising that this got released just as the BLM movement started.”

“It's quite trippy because I wrote this song about my teenage life. It’s shocking how prominent these issues still are today.”

InDuna highlights the issue of racism and inequality through Black Man Running to make the topics a more common conversation. The song doesn’t let listeners stay oblivious, but re-introduces particular matters that need to be acknowledged.

A music video will be coming out for Black Man Running accompanied by BTS footage with InDuna’s insights of the song. The single is from his second EP that is due to be released early next year.
