Aspen

Bio

Wellington electronic musician Bevan Smith is Aspen - a name which refers to the tree species, not the US ski resort. At present, the Aspen project is centred around work with live musicians, primarily drummers and guitarists.

Bevan first played guitar at the end of his schooling life, made lots of weird noises onto tape, and got into multitracking. From there has experimented with synthesisers and is now interested in sound alteration via software and incorporating vocal elements into Aspen material.

In the early-mid 90's Bevan was particularly influenced by the electronica of the Warp, Mo Wax, and Rephlex labels. At present he is interested in german minimalist labels such as Chain Reaction, ~Scape, and various guitar/pop artists.

Bevan states that, he feels more influenced by other local producers working with his label Involve Records such as Jeremy Coubrough (Mandrake) Michael Upton (Jet Jaguar) and Clinton Francis (formerly Isolation) than overseas artist/labels.

Bevan Smith also works under Patio.
