The Undercurrents

Bio

The Undercurrents' story began with a typical South Island scenario - huddled around the Conray mid-winter making up and recording songs. Since then they've released an EP and 3 singles... all of which have been played a lot on the b-Net stations throughout the country.

Those original recording sessions resulted in the self titled EP which included the songs 'Breaking Waves', 'My Bonnie Lies Over the River', 'The Big Thaw' and 2004 b-net music awards best unreleased song nomination 'When You Wish Upon a Star'.

The Undercurrents have continued to write and record since those days producing another single 'She Was Not Absurd' which charted at #1 on the Radioscope Indie Charts in 2004.

After recording this single and demos for an album, original drummer Nathan Bycroft set sail for Italy whereupon Pine's Stephen McCarthy joined the band. Also added to the group at this time was violinist/keyboardist Mike Summerfield. McCarthy's stint was short lived, however, so Simon Nunn of High Tone Destroyers/SVS Hit Machine fame joined the band. And now they rock.

Highlights of 2005 include winning the Dux de Lux Round-Up band competition. Currently The UCs are recording an albums worth of material and trying to hock it off to some unsuspecting indie record label.

Look out for an album in 2006 and live shows in all the main centres.

Band Members:
Mike Summerfield (violin, keyboard)

darn goo.

In fact so good I bought another copy for my old man for Xmas.

I particulary like 3 , 5, 6.
6, "Oceans Wide" is probably my favourite, reminds me of some Music form a long time ago but anxious enough to carry realism. The Vocal alone conveys this track means something.

Like the snare pickup in Verse2 (1:47)as well, but the drums could come up on the whole disc I think....

but it washs over me, and hopefully a lot of people check this release out.
Now for the Album eh?
