PanAm

Bio

Ostensibly a four piece rock and roll band from Auckland, PanAm deliver much more than the average three chord thrash garage trash neo punk band. Their eclectic sound has been described as:

"… more of a dirty, bitchin, fucked-up indie rock freight train, paying homage to the early pioneers of the art as well as perverting the genre for new generations".

The sound of PanAm now can only be described as kick ass. Like all great four-piece groups, PanAm possess an intriguing blend of equal parts headlong power, melody and total, balls out excitement. They come straight at you like a precision guided cruise missile attack.

The creative core of Paul Barrett and Cole Goodley, songwriter/guitarist extraodinaire and animal drummer respectively, were joined by bass player Rob Collins and live guitarist Jared Kahi in Feb 2004. Previously a three-piece, the new incarnation’s fat-stick sound and kick ass confidence are the perfect vehicle for Barrett’s prolific songwriting talents.

Signed to Flying Nun in 2001, PanAm have released two records to date; 2002’s 'New Concepts in Sound Recording' EP, and last year’s self-titled debut album 'PanAm'. Lauded by critics across NZ, both are forceful manifestos in sideways pop and essential listening for lovers of fine and unique rock and roll.

Regarded as one of the premier guitar bands in the country, PanAm have toured extensively in New Zealand with the likes of The D4, Betchadupa, and Fur Patrol.

Band Members:
Rob Collins (bass)
Jared Kahi (guitar)
Paul Barrett (vocals, guitar)
Cole Goodley (drums)

PanAm Play 11 Shows in May with New Lineup
Posted: Wed Apr 28, 2004 7:47 pm
Those dirty bitches...

On the heels of their critically acclaimed album, released late 2003, PAN AM announce an 11 date nation-wide tour extravaganza of sight and sound. All through the music month of May the band will visit the main centres in both islands and a few of the more far flung bastions of rock 'n roll in our fair land – Barrytown and Raglan are two typical west coast examples.

The band also announce a new four-piece line-up that sees Rob 'Wyman' Collins of b-net fame take over bass duties from Jarrod Ross, and the inclusion of long time musical collaborator Jared Kahi on second guitar and backing vocals. Cole Goodley (drums) and Paul Barrett (vocals/guitar) remain essentially unchanged, although rumoured to be behaving badly.

An Australian release of PAN AM's self titled debut album will see the band relocating to Melbourne after their NZ tour.

Feel the fervour, hear the new songs, pash someone in the audience. Catch the most highly rated kiwi recording artists as judged in the New Zealand Herald's top 30 for 2003. You have to see this band now.

New Bassist for PanAm
Posted: Tue Mar 16, 2004 9:10 pm
RDU Promotions manager Rob Collins is leaving at the end of March to join Auckland rockers PanAm.

In Rob’s own words: "After two rewarding years in the bNet, I'm leaving RDU at the end of March for Auckland and beyond... because I've been asked to take up bass guitar duties with PanAm! It's time for me to go live the dream. You know, the one where you leave town with guitar case in one hand, suitcase in the other and only the rich prospects of the musicians wage and free cds to sustain yourself...
But Rob won’t be leaving without a fuss. There’ll be drinks and a gig at the Wunderbar on the 27th where he’ll play one more gig with Slipstream.

The new Rob-infused Pan Am will then hit the road for a nationwide tour before taking off to base themselves in Melbourne for an assault on Australia.

Pan Am off to SXSW
Posted: Sat Jan 4, 2003 1:41 pm
The Datsuns, The D4 and Pan Am have been confirmed as acts at next year's prestigious South by Southwest festival in the in Austin, Texas.

It'll be a return visit for the D4 and Datsuns (they both appeared at last year's event), and they seem to created something of a bridgehead for a major kiwi invasion, as it would appear up to 19 New Zealand bands have applied for spots at this year's showcase.

Final lineups are due to be announced as the showcase directors work their way through the submissions from around the world. Keep up to date with SXSW developments at http://www.sxsw.com/
