Bio

Efflorescent is progressive jazz rock band that was formed in Dunedin in late 2017 by guitarist Kaleb Barrow and bassist Zane Donaldson. They later added drummer Jacob Roos who was also the drummer for Bark Like a Dog, Janadhi Dissanyake on guitar and D'angelo Wade on vocals, all whom they met through high school.

Their first live performance was at the 2018 Otago SmokeFree RockQuest competition where they performed their first written song Tomo. They made their way to the regional finals and D'angelo left the band soon thereafter. Being absent of a singer, they became an instrumental band for the rest of the year.

At the beginning of 2019, they recruited Bark Like a Dog lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Josh Glennie. The band then changed most of their instrumental songs to be incorporated with vocals. The band did a few live performances around Dunedin, as well as making it to the 2019 Battle of the Bands national finals in Auckland before relocated up to Wellington the following year.

After a hiatus from performing for most of 2020, the band is back to gigging for 2021, as well as replacing Glennie (who decided to focus on his other band Tinsy Pam) for solo artist and songwriter Liam Boyne, who also originates from Dunedin. The group is subsequently in the works of producing their debut EP.
