J Plates

Bio

J Plates has spent over a decade honing his skills as a versatile Producer / DJ capable of reaching an international audience. New Zealand born and now based in the UK, his tracks have become recognised for their sonic qualities, rich in atmospheric character & influenced by a more nostalgic and musical sound within the Drum & Bass and Electronic Music spectrums.

Having released a handful of material on labels throughout the UK and Europe between 2013/14 (Sonata Recordings, Offworld Recordings, Deafmuted Records, Liquid Brilliants), and receiving support from a reputable list of established artists such as; Klute, Vice Versa, Stunna, Chris Sabian, Con*Natural (aka MC Conrad), and Random Movement, J Plates veered into harder edged territory with his debut EP release for Greek label Audio Theory Records during the first half of 2015. The title track Defeat The Purpose became a regular track for Commercial Suicide label boss Klute, during one of his world touring circuits: “People get excited when it comes in; It’s got great energy.” – Klute.

Further highlights for the NZ producer included a support slot opening for Dave Owen (Good Looking Records / Liquid V) at the legendary Stamina nights in San Francisco, followed by a support slot closing for NZ heavyweights Truth (Deep Medi Musik) both taking place midway through the year.

J Plates returned with his second EP release titled Visions via UK label Omni Music in 2016, delivering a soaring debut and supporting mixtape: “Influenced by the classic Jungle / Drum & Bass era, J Plates carves out his own niche with a varied selection of breakbeat led masterpieces.” - Omni Music. The end of 2016 also took the Producer into new territory with the Omni Music label, revealing his Techno-influenced remix of KY! track I See U, proving another example of his ability and versatility to deliver in other genres.

The start of 2017 sees J Plates finding new feet, with another short stop over in San Francisco to play a support slot for Drum & Bass long stayers Calyx & Teebee (Ram Records) while relocating to the UK. Stepping once again out of his comfort zone, J Plates teamed up with iLL Records and veteran Turntablist & DMC UK Supremacy Champion DJ Koncept to deliver the TripHop inspired single Fields towards the end of the year.

2019 brings a fresh new double single via Lisbon based label Skalator Music, with The Relic and Liquid Metal being picked up and receiving huge support from the likes of A Sides, Neurotoxin, Broken Sight, Nery, B.Riddim, label support from Offworld Recordings, In-Reach, Dirty Hole Music, and further placements on a variety of Podcasts such as The Everyday Junglist, DNB Dojo, DNB Heaven, and Emplate DNB Radio.
