Datsuns Pick Up Danish Date
Posted: Sat Mar 1, 2003 1:26 pm
With the recent NME Carling Award for 'Best Live Band' and confirmed gold status for their debut album in New Zealand under their belt, The Datsuns continue their globe-trotting this month.

The foursome have been confirmed for the high profile Roskilde festival in Denmark in June.

The festival organisers give them a great rap in the press release too: "The Datsuns from New Zealand descend directly from The Stooges and AC/DC. They play ROCK with everything this entails - banging drums, pulsating bass riffs, long guitar solos and songs about women and sex."

Check out their brand new website too.

RE: The Datsuns nominated for top international band

Thanks to NoiZyland for the following...

Congratulations to The Datsuns, who picked up the Best Live Act award at this years NME Music Awards.

The Cambridge lads missed out on the Best International Band (picked up by Sweden's The Hives), and Best New Band (The Libertines), but should be feeling pretty chuffed with themselves anyway, having taken out the Best Live Act award ahead of such company as the aforementioned Hives, touring mates The White Stripes, The Stroke and The Vines (Obviously, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, without the prerequisite 'The' at the start of their name, were never in the hunt).

Datsuns Out And About
Posted: Tue Jan 21, 2003 4:10 pm
Thanks to un_chart_ed for the following:

Cambridge's number one rock exports The Datsuns are out and about around the UK again over coming weeks, drumming up some support for their two NME Awards nominations as part of a 13 date 2003 NME Awards package tour also featuring fellow "new rock revolution" buzz bands The Polyphonic Spree, Interpol and The Thrills.

The tour kicks off at the Ambassador Theatre in Dublin this Friday January 24th, with The Datsuns taking the following evening off to open for Supergrass at London's Wembley Arena before rejoining the NME tour for further dates leading up to the NME Carling Awards themselves, which take place in London on February 13th.

Nominated for Best Live and Best New Band in this year's awards, The Datsuns will release a new single, "Harmonic Generator", to coincide with the tour. You can catch the new single's music video and check out full tour dates for the NME Awards Tour on The Datsusns website: http://www.thedatsuns.com

Datsuns off to SXSW
Posted: Sat Jan 4, 2003 1:40 pm
The Datsuns, The D4 and Pan Am have been confirmed as acts at next year's prestigious South by Southwest festival in the in Austin, Texas.

It'll be a return visit for the D4 and Datsuns (they both appeared at last year's event), and they seem to created something of a bridgehead for a major kiwi invasion, as it would appear up to 19 New Zealand bands have applied for spots at this year's showcase.

Final lineups are due to be announced as the showcase directors work their way through the submissions from around the world. Keep up to date with SXSW developments at http://www.sxsw.com/

Datsuns Go Global
Posted: Fri Dec 6, 2002 5:46 pm
Thanks to Median Strip for this info:

Right, that's England done, now time to invade America…

The Datsuns have their sights set on conquering North America in 2003, with a second appearance at the annual SouthxSouthWest festival and a hefty new deal with V2, covering the US and 'the rest of the world'!

A repeat of the UK furore culminated in another bidding war, this time by US labels. Andy Gershon (best known for managing the Smashing Pumpkins for a number of years) from V2 North America won the race, signing The Datsuns to a two-album deal for an undisclosed sum. We can safely assume, however, that it's LARGE.

Meanwhile The Datsuns' self-titled debut has had to be rush-released in Japan this week due to the huge demand that has seen lots of import copies of the album come into the country. The US will release the album in February 2003, with other territories to follow after the American release date.

The band last week recorded a set for UK music show Later With Jools Holland, alongside a rather impressive line-up - Foo Fighters, Coldplay and 1 Giant Leap featuring Robbie Williams and Baba Maal - before skipping off on another European tour, with Swedish rockers The Helicopters.

They head home to Cambirdge for Christmas and perhaps a brief moment to reflect on the distance - both figuratively and literally - that they've travelled this year.

The Datsuns To Headline NME Awards Tour
Posted: Tue Nov 19, 2002 7:40 pm
The band "sponsored by Cambridge", according to music biz lawyer and industry watcher Shane Simpson, have been given top billing on next year's prestigious NME Awards Tour through the UK.

The Datsuns, ioined by The Polyphonic Spree, Interpol and The Thrills, play 13 dates through January in the lead-up to the February 13 NME Carling Music Awards in London.

The tour has become famous for unveiling major new talent over the years. Previous headliners have included Coldplay, The Stereophonics, Andrew WK, Starsailor and the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

You'll get low odds on the boys also getting amongst the silverware on prize night too.

The Datsuns Are #1
Posted: Sun Nov 3, 2002 1:06 pm
The Datsuns self titled debut album has debuted at number 1 in the NZ Charts!

Currently in the UK, and about to walk on stage at The Boat Club in Nottingham, The Datsuns and their manager, Tom Dalton, were absolutley stoked to hear the news.

"Wow that's ****** brillant! Home rocks!" - Matt Datsun

The Datsuns fly to New York tomorrow to begin their two week tour of the US, and then head to Europe for another 3 week tour.

Relentlessly rockin' the globe, we'll just have to wait until next year to see The Datsuns play live here again - just as well we've got that rockin' record to tide us over!!

See The Datsuns New Video on bands.co.nz
Posted: Fri Sep 27, 2002 4:37 pm
'In Love' (out 23 September) is The Datsun's first proper release since signing to V2 and features Carrie and Marcie from The Von Bondies on backing vocals.

The video was shot live in Portsmouth and Bristol in August and shows the band in full Deep Purple mode. If you haven't had the chance to catch them live, then this video is the next best thing. For those of us that have, the only thing missing from the performance based video is the boys climbing on amps and their drum kits, injuring themselves.

Go to the following link for more info, and to view the video:
