When The Cats Away

Bio

The all kiwi entertainment phenomenon, When the Cats Away, are Annie Crummer, Debbie Harwood, Kim Willoughby and Margaret Urlich.

Formed in 1986, the group was awarded Listener Film and Television Awards for 'Entertainers of the Year' and 'Documentary of the Year' in 1988 and also took out the coveted 'Group of the Year' award at the NZ Music Awards in 1989.

Their hits include Leader Of The Pack, Sanctified, Free Ride and the 1988 Gold No1 hit single Melting Pot. Their live album When The Cats Away - Live also achieved Gold status.

In 2001 the group got back together to do a theatre tour of NZ with guest star Sharon O'Neill and recorded their album, Live In Paradise over three packed-out nights at the Aotea Centre in Auckland.

The album achieved Platinum sales and their single Asian Paradise reached No6 on the charts and was the second most played NZ song in 2001. In 2002 they toured again, during summer, playing large outdoor shows featuring Sharon O'Neill again plus Eddie Rayner and Noel Crombie from Split Enz. When The Cats Away has never 'broken up', as such, but periodically gets together to tour, gig and record.
