Posted: Wed Nov 26, 2003 7:07 pm
Ex-Christchurch band degrees.K have been announced to play at the Australian Falls Festival in Victoria for New Year's Eve alongside Pennywise, Turin Brakes, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Regurgitator and Gerling (to name a few). Last month the band was full-on playing alongside Pacifier and Fur Patrol, from which they were invited to play the main stage at this years Falls Festival. This year’s festival is expecting 14, 000 crazy Aussies to see in the New Year.

degrees.K have a crazy time in Melbourne
Posted: Tue Aug 26, 2003 7:56 am
Three days of travelling recording and playing bore much fruit for degrees.K on their trip to Melbourne last weekend, and have them geared up and ready to return to the Homeland in just over a month.
degrees.K rolled into Melbourne just over a week ago and commenced a two day demo recording session at Bootfull Audio with Matt Dufty (whose previous projects have included Something for Kate and Jebadiah). The result was 13 songs demoed in preperation for future releases. Keep an eye on degrees.K.com for sneak peek mp3s of a few of these tracks.

In between the recording and very little sleep, they also fitted in two shows and introduced Melbourne to their rolling rock sound. The first show was at the Espy, a bastion of live music in Melbourne, and resulted in a glowing review being posted on the influential Indie Initiative website by Neil Wedd, a central figure in the Melbourne live scene.

Neil described the show has having blown him away, and closed with the comment: "See this band. I don’t make big calls like this too often."

degrees.K now go into preperation for returning home for a New Zealand tour covering the length of the country, beginning in Christchurch on the 25th September. Details are at www.degrees.K.com. Don't miss it.

Degrees.K news from Oz
Posted: Mon Aug 4, 2003 8:02 am
We've been solidly gigging here in Australia for 5 months now and are heading in to the studio next week to demo our NEW material which is sounding more mature and will turn some heads in the industry (here's hoping anyway).

We do this recording in Melbourne with Matt Dufty from Bootfull Audio whom has produced and twiddled knobs for 'Something for Kate' and 'Jebediah'. After these sessions are done we swim back to New Zealand for a national tour with fellow indie kids Ejector, should be a biggie.

Degrees.K News
Posted: Wed Jul 23, 2003 7:36 pm
Degrees.K have found Australia to be the land of opportunity since making the move there early this year. The latest door to open for the indie four piece is a chance to record new songs with Matt Dufty ('Something for Kate' and 'Jebediah') in his Melbourne studio. degrees.k will be in Melbourne recording and playing four shows early August.

Producer/Engineer Matt Dufty, whom has recorded and toured internationally with major Australian acts 'Something for Kate' and 'Jebediah', will be twiddling the knobs and sliding the faders for degrees.K in his Melbourne studio.

This will be the first time recording for degrees.K since the end of their sessions for the debut album 'Lifelike'in 2002, and the first time that band will record with recent addition of guitar matador Charlie J Underwood.

"Australia has been very kind, and we have been lucky enough to have met good dudes like Matt Dufty. We're REALLY looking forward to getting in the studio as these new songs really work for us and feel like they represent where we sit more as a band now." says Charlie.

Be sure to keep an eye out for degrees.K when they return to NZ in late September for a national tour with Ejector before returning to OZ for further touring.

degrees.K play:
7th august - The Espy (melb)
8th August - The Beat magazine (melb), in office performance.
8th August - The Pony (melb)
9th August - T.B.C.

Degrees.K hitting it off in Australia
Posted: Thu May 22, 2003 12:07 pm
Degrees.K have been receiving some great reviews over on their Australian jaunt. The most recent is a review from Triple M and Planetrock.com that gave the 'sweetest not to mention cutest' degrees.k boys a remarkable 7.5 out of 10 and described their show as 'hard hitting, vibrant and one of the best live shows out there.'

Degrees.K have been playing solidly during the 2 months since they arrived in Australia. Whilst there, the band has impressed local punters and industry folk with their intense live shows and compulsive music.

The boys last week played an exclusive acoustic performance for the staff of Sydney's Revolver magazine who also interviewed the band and described Degrees.K as 'truly alternative rock' and 'far too interesting to ignore'.

This week sees the lads teaming up with New Zealand's own Two Lane Black Top at the Vic On The Park which should rock!

New recording is also beckoning, and the Degrees.K Australian journey will see the band heading to Melbourne during June & July for a series of shows and to record the demos of the band's new material.

There is a 16 date New Zealand/Australian tour planned for September and October with Ejector, watch this space for more info on that as it comes available.

In the meantime check out the review yourself @ http://www.planetrock.com.au/ (click the link and head over to the Jagermeister Rock Reporter in the Features section).

Thanks to un_chart_ed for this info:

Christchurch band Degrees K are to join the seemingly non-stop stream of leading local bands emigrating to Australia. The band, who have been together for three years and have two EPs and an album under their belt, are relocating to Sydney over the next month.
