A.D.D

Bio

A.D.D began in June 2004, under the rather silly moniker The Hyperhyders. Several years and line-up changes later, and A.D.D has evolved into the band you see today. Drawing on influences from punk, prog-rock, pop, metal, and electronica, the band is a refreshing mix of styles which provides an insight into the sound of contemporary rock music.

The band members come from a diverse range of musical and cultural backgrounds.

Chelsea Metcalf, the band's lead vocalist, melded into the mix a day prior to the Somerfest Rock competition and her chemistry with the well-established A.D.D was undeniable. Chelsea is no stranger to performing with a background of dance and drama as well as dabbling in the cello and drums. With influences ranging from Feist to Joan Jett, Chelsea's eclectic tastes make up her unique vocal style. A.D.D hopes to re-record their tracks soon to feature Chelsea's vocal stylings.

Anson Yang is the band's main songwriter and guitarist. His greatest influence is Matthew Bellamy of Muse. Anson was brought up a pianist until taking up guitar at age 16. Anson's ability to produce original chord progressions and melodies comes from his lack of formal music training, and self-taught playing style. Recently, Anson's music tastes have began shifting towards the old-school hard-rock music of bands such as AC/DC, Wolfmother, and Queen.

Bassist Talita Setyady joined the band after the departure of previous member Matilda Chua. Providing a strong groove and inventive lines, Talita is a technically proficient bassist as well as a capable guitarist. Her influences on bass include the likes of Auf Der Maur, Mark King and the Vic Wooten. She enjoys listening to artists as diverse as Keane, Teitur, The Shins, The Checks, Bob Dylan, Arctic Monkeys, Jamie Cullum, Minuit and Bjork. Though she does have the tendency of going back to John Mayer at the end of the day.

Aaron Parker had been a longtime friend of the band before being called in to tackle drumming duties. Aaron listens to a variety of music, from the hard rock stylings of Incubus and The Used to the mellow jazz of Jamie Cullum and Diana Krall. Aaron's inspiration as a drummer is Incubus' Jose Pasillas. Aaron's powerful beats, machine-gun fills, and rock-solid timekeeping provide the band with a solid backing to rock to.

Fleet-fingered axeman Geoff Ong's fiery fretwork has helped to define A.D.Ds unique sound since its inception in 2004. A genuine fan of 60's-70's classic rock and blues like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Geoff cites his favourite guitarists as Slash, John Mayer ("Some guys get all the luck!"), Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, and Eric Clapton. Always exploring new musical avenues, Geoff also plays jazz trombone in 2 ensembles and listens to everything from metal to folk to reggae.

Combining the past and the present, A.D.D's fresh sound reminds us of what rock n' roll is all about: freedom and individuality. Fans of any rock genre can appreciate A.D.Ds music through its creative and unique spirit.
