Moneypenny

Bio

Moneypenny is a pop-rock music band based in Auckland, playing original guitar pop.

Moneypenny has gone from strength to strength over the past 12 months. Daniel Sutton has been writing songs for several years and has previously played in local Auckland band Oxymoron. With singles such as 'Weather Girl' (received high rotation on 95 bfm in 1998) under his belt, Daniel was inspired to write other catchy pop-rock tunes.

Daniel was joined in the rehearsal room by drummer Glen Faithful and guitarist Kevin Livesay who added a definite rock feel to the acoustic based songs. With 10 years of drumming in various cover bands, Glen has added a variety of rhythms to create the Moneypenny style.

Previously involved as backing vocalist and keyboardist in Auckland band Fono, Jacqui Jones met Daniel at a King's Arm gig. In June of 2001 Jacqui joined Moneypenny as front person and vocalist and the current line up was complete.

Most of the band's time together has been spent in the rehearsal room however moneypenny have tested their brand of Kiwi pop/rock in front of live audiences at Auckland venues Café 223, Tabac, The Temple, The King's Arms and monthly gigs at The Masonic. Reaching the semi-finals of the 2001 Battle of the Bands and York Street Acid Test boosted the band's confidence in the live arena and reinforced their belief in the strength of their songs.

With recording mastery from Auckland sound engineer Peter Hobbs, moneypenny has also been able to lay down a couple of solid tracks - 'Self Medication' and 'Little Star'.

The band continues to build their experience through regular live performances and spending time in the studio to further explore and create the "Moneypenny sound".

Sadly, Kev decided to move on to do some traveling and leave Moneypenny without a bass player - but do not fret! Recently, the talented Carey McGregor joined Moneypenny. 10 years of playing Bass and Guitar in Dunedin band, The Clones; TV Show Sports Café band and various other bands in Auckland has enhanced Carey's musical versatility.
