Ant Tarrant - Album Review: Beachtopia

10 May 2024 // A review by djnamehere

I assumed that the album Beachtopia by Ant Tarrant would have a tropical pop feel to it, and this was pretty accurate. This seemed to be an upbeat and love themed EP. If you love happy songs, then you'll love this. However, I found that the last song doesn't really fit with the happiness vibe. Here are my comments on some of the 12 tracks.

Many songs have backing vocals, such as Kiss In The Dark. There is also an echo in this song.

The track Deactivate has an electronic feel to it. Most of the songs don't sound electronic. I also like the other singer on this track. Although this is quite a soft song when you compare it to the rest, I like the rhythm. I'd say that this is my favourite, I also think that the vibe on Deactivate is a bit different to the rest.

Good Energy has a few long notes.

This album has the occasional explicit lyric, such as one word in Beautiful Time Of Day. "F*** the system". I only mention this because some people don't like swearing. There was only one other curse word in the album that I noticed.

I think In My Imagination is a quirky concept for a song. "Welcome to my Imagination, where all your lies are true". Also in his imagination all of the world's problems are solved. You could interpret this as not being as upbeat as the majority of the songs. The only other non-upbeat song is I Feel You at the end. I probably wouldn't have placed this song at the very end, I would have found a more positive song to end it with.

It felt like there was a rap break near the beginning of Your Sweet Time.

I found the lyrics mostly understandable. Though, I thought Beautiful Time Of Day had another swear word in it, but the lyric turned out to be "We have a morning shift to do"

I would recommend this album if you like songs that make you feel good.

About Ant Tarrant

After countless journeys throughout the world, Ant is back in New Zealand doing what he loves; producing, singing and writing songs. He's playing a few festivals for the NZ summer and after producing for Ammar Music in the USA, he's now focusing on releasing his own songs and producing for other artists. He's been mentored by hit song writers and producers in the States and has had his songs signed by companies including Seven Seas Music, Catch The Moon, What Up Pitches and Ammar Music Group.

He rediscovered his love for making the crowd move in the last four years in the electronic dance scenes of Colombia and Panama. His multi-instrumental background produces live sets (often with his mate as DJ) while playing guitar and singing over the top. Original tunes and the occasional classic blending funk, house and pop all together.

He has just released his first single about his experiences in Latin America and is getting some more modern pop releases ready for 2021.

Boardgames for Blondes - Album Review: On The Run
25 Feb 2024 // by djnamehere
I found the band Boardgames for Blondes to be a natural sounding band, as opposed to modern day electronic music. The majority of the lyrics are actually understandable, unlike some other modern pop songs out there.

Ivy Christchurch show opened with Ragweed and closed with a DJ duo playing house tracks. Ragweed was more of a head bangy set.

Moofish - Album Review: Entropia
08 Dec 2023 // by djnamehere
The music that is on Moofish's newest album Entropia consists of slow songs. Honestly, I couldn't really understand most of the lyrics, but that is not rare with music these days.
