Sofia Machray - Single Review: Petals In The Rain

Arrowtown-born, Wellington-based Indie Dream-Pop Fantasizer Sofia Machray recently released her new single Petals In The Rain. Staking her claim in New Zealand's alternative indie scene alongside her 3-piece support band (topping alternative charts in 2020), Machray's strong vocals and lofty melodies provides the listener with a Florence And The Machine vibe.
Arrowtown-born, Wellington-based Indie Dream-Pop Fantasizer Sofia Machray recently released her new single Petals In The Rain. Staking her claim in New Zealand's alternative indie scene alongside her 3-piece support band (topping alternative charts in 2020), Machray's strong vocals and lofty melodies provides the listener with a Florence And The Machine vibe.This is her first track off her highly anticipated debut 6-track EP, Language Of Flowers, which is due for release in July 2023.
Described as a “captivating dreamy track”, Petals In The Rain combine intimate lyrics with an ethereal sound, showcasing her raw wistful vocals. Machray has a strong voice with a melodic sound.
There is a dreamy quality with this track which radiates through this song, alongside a powerful delivery and tight instrumentation.
Written by Sofia Machray and co-produced with engineer Robbie Pattinson, Petals In The Rain is a song about reminiscing on memories with a beautiful tranquil feel.

About Sofia Machray
Becoming a strong forerunner in New Zealand’s independent scene, Machray was quick to win the hearts of music lovers close to home and abroad. Touring Aotearoa off the back of her debut single Handstands in 2020, the song went on to chart number 1 on various independent radio stations and led to her sharing stages with indie icons such as Palace, Wax Mustang, Dolphin Friendly, Ha The Unclear, and Racing.
2023 saw the release of Machray's dreamy debut record Language Of Flowers which attracted solid attention and support from both international/local media earning its spot on the Student Radio Network chats with multiple tracks such as Petals In The Rain, Foundations, and Crumbs climbing to number 1.
