Teazse - Single Review: Love, Money Or Drugs

14 Oct 2022 // A review by Ben Ruegg

The new single from Teazse, an independent rap artist from Auckland, brings a lot of what people like about modern hip hop and brings it into his own world, while still acknowledging the sound of those that came before. For example, the sampled pitched voice works well when used well, and it's done here well. A solid beat holds up some filtered piano and a synth rhythmic sound that takes me back to the sound of Shapeshifter.

The production of this track is all here, and I am not sure whether this is a track produced by Teazse himself or if it is produced by someone else. Either way, it sounds great and Teazse finds his place on the track with his rap. Although, I found the delay on the vocals took away from the clarity that could have been had with his vocal on the track. Lyrically, the concept of Love, Money Or Drugs is explored a little here. Rather, seems like it's about drugs mainly but the track starts with praying for love.

I was left feeling a little confused with the overall message here. However, I don't think people will mind as the track vibes and has a great feel to it.

Rating: ( 3 / 5 )
