Sabreen Islam - Single Review: Like A Movie

16 Nov 2021 // A review by Corinne Rutherford

Auckland based young singer-songwriter Sabreen Islam has just released her follow up single to Glow in the trilogy of pop-oriented singles. Like A Movie is a track firmly aimed at the youth market "capturing the rift between romcoms and real life".

Sabreen has had a busy 18 years. Writing since childhood she self-published her collection of poetry. She was also selected as a semi-finalist in the International Song writing Competition 2020 and played Auckland's Others Way Festival in 2018.

Taking a step back from the softer sounding Indie-Folk singles of the past, Like A Movie is peppy, fresh and playful yet mellowed by piano, it is an upbeat story of hopeful love.

Easy listening, this track is modern pop with low-fi beats backed up by lilting harmonious vocals. The easy-going production style has created the perfect sound to pull it all together.

Currently Sabreen is studying at the University of Auckland whilst producing her own music. Delivering her unique sound to the world and gaining positive feedback for it.
