Oh Indigo - Single Review: Wondering

27 Oct 2021 // A review by Lou Clement
Oh Indigo are a new electronic musical duo composed of Sofia Machray and Connor Taumoepeau, based in Wellington, both with their own significant musical projects behind them. Their debut single Wondering was released on 22 October, 2021.

The single is a sweet electro melody with a daydream escape type vibe. It moves between delicate harmonies and twinkling electronic accompaniments. And a background which is ever so slightly epic. The lyrics present a sentimental and yet resolved take on the heartbreak song. Machray and Taumoepeau describe the song as “about acknowledging what was or has been and embracing those memories”. We’ve all had those moments in life, where one adventure ends and change eventually brings about reflection, about what was. Wondering is a chance to hear a song built on that feeling, difficult to articulate but very easy (and comforting) to listen to.

This song sounds very much like part of a puzzle, with perhaps the tracks of a full album being the missing pieces. It will interesting to hear how Oh Indigo build their strengths in to their music – it has a contemporary urban feel, with emotional impact, elements of choral influences I’d love to hear more of, they might prove to be part of a folktronica genre, this remains to be seen – or heard.

Rating: ( 4 / 5 )

About Oh Indigo

Through their two worlds of moody sun rockers to punchy flared house, Oh Indigo presents as a collaboration blending colours and alternative cocktails. Hailing from the heart of Wellington, New Zealand the alternative electro duo formed in 2020 by the likes of Sofia Machray and Connor Taumoepeau, who combined their known fields of songwriting and electronic music forging their own unique sound. Oh Indigo picks and pulls fragments of magnitude with their distinctively moody, mellow, R&B flecked beats layered with airy vocal tones, having you melting into moments of pure bliss.
