State Of Mind - Single Review: Fateful Hour
Auckland Drum and Bass duo State of Mind have come a long way over the years, with 6 albums and many high profile collaborations under their belt.
Their latest release Fateful Hour with Black Sun Empire, is yet another fine example of this outfit’s world class production prowess.
The title of this track is inspired by a famous journalist, Robert St John. At 1am, June 6, 1944, Robert ominously announced "Ladies and Gentlemen, we may be approaching a fateful hour. All night long bulletins have been pouring in from Berlin claiming that D-Day is here". And he was right.
This quote is featured throughout the track, and underpins its menacing neuro-funk assault on the senses.
Right from the get-go, Fateful Hour creates a feeling that "something epic is about to happen"… Much like Robert’s announcement. Brooding build-ups, and 'siren-like' risers create a sense of urgency. When the drop hits, it’s like an explosion inside your chest, and all hell breaks loose.
Fateful Hour’s menacing bassline is punctuated with searing leads and relentless, punchy beats. This track has been mixed to be played LOUD - It’s an absolute behemoth.
Kudos to State of Mind and Black Sun Empire, for crafting yet another banger - Its D-Day inspired theme may be dark in nature, but its trance inducing flow will no doubt be appreciated on the D-Floor.
