Grace - Single Review: Echo Thoughts

29 May 2020 // A review by Corinne Rutherford

Young bedroom music producer from Auckland, Grace has just released the first track from her EP Music From The Cupboard. Echo Thoughts is a captivating track of ethereal vocals enveloped in a luscious techno beat.

The 22 year old singer-songwriter producing Electronic Indie Pop from her bedroom cupboard, has quietly been working on her skills as a producer since winning the Lion Foundation Song writing Competition back in 2015.

Grace's music is often a journal of her life experiences, and this is no exception capturing the emotion felt after a break up; "Echo Thoughts captures the rawness of the emotion in this time, juxtaposing feeling with fear". What I really enjoyed about this track is seamless merging of soft, hazy otherworldly vocals with smooth guitar and a tidy beat.

As a true solo artist, Grace also writes, produces, films and edits all her own material. When she is not making music, she is working as a Civil Engineer.

If Echo Thoughts is anything to go by, her EP Music From The Cupboard will definitely be on my radar as one to watch out for.

About Grace

Grace is a 22 year old singer-songwriter producing Electronic Indie Pop from her bedroom cupboard. Based in Auckland, her lyrics are often autobiographical in nature and capture the struggles of relationships, adolescence and growth.

After winning the Lion Foundation Songwriting Competition in 2015, Grace has been quietly honing her skills as a producer. In this time, Grace’s track Young, Naive & Reckless has accumulated nearly 300,000 streams on Spotify. In 2020, Grace is following this up with her self produced EP, Music From The Cupboard.

When she’s not making music, Grace lives a double life as a Civil Engineer, setting aside her savings for recording studios and production gear. Living the budget musician life to its fullest, Grace is determined to make her own way in the music scene.
