Scott MCB - Single Review: That Day

10 Sep 2018 // A review by Corinne Rutherford

Scott MCB is a singer songwriter from Auckland. He has been busy developing his music style and has just released his latest single That Day along with his second video.

Scott is an Indie artist with a pop sound and although this song is a bright and breezy tune, oozing with those great summertime vibes and young carefree connotations, I got the feeling it was continuation of a journey from his first single which was lyrically darker. This track tells a story about acceptance and the word Universe is used at regular intervals throughout the song.

Listening to Scott’s music he has a sound sparkling with effervescence. “he draws influences from many genres with some not being typical for a singer songwriter”. I am not entirely sure there is any one genre “typical” to singer songwriters; however, he did used to play in heavy metal/rock bands which are a far cry from what he is now producing.

The videography accompanying That Day is polished and made me sit up and take notice about the location it was filmed in. Loved that long pier. He really captured the essence of summer brilliantly; fun in the sun with friends. The lively youthful exuberance accompanying his seemingly reflective mood suited the song perfectly.

Scott has previously said that his goal is to create music which is genuine, honest and positive and which holds some form of feeling or meaning for his listeners. I believe his lyrics and sound reflects this. That Day is a fresh upbeat tune perfect for guiding us into the balmy days of summer.
