Valen - Single Review: C’mon Over

02 Aug 2017 // A review by Corinne Rutherford

If RnB with a touch of Soul is your thing, then the smooth sound from Auckland musical artist Valen will be something to look forward in the future when she releases her first EP. But for now we get a taste of what is to come, with her first single C’mon Over.

Valen is not only an R&B singer; she is also a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist whose influences include Pop Culture YouTube sensation Tori Kelly and underground artists such as Mar and Sonder.

C’mon Over flows very well and the lyrics are engaging. Valen has a natural warm and velvety tone which showcases her strong vocals and creativity. This young lady has a rather lovely voice, sweet yet mellow.

There is substance in this track; it has the soulful vibe you hope to find from a Rhythm and Blues artist, and is backed up by some clever electronic beats. I personally thought this track was a skillful and enticing introduction to what Valen has to offer.

C’mon Over has been mastered by Simon Lynch at Stebbing Studios in Auckland.

About Valen

Valen is an R&B singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Auckland. The 21-year-old songwriter is already gaining a reputation for her intense vocals and pure, authentic style that combines both organic acoustic elements with warm ethereal electronics. Her creativity is a result of many influential genres that range from pop culture such as Tori Kelly, The 1975 to underground artists like Mar and Sonder.

Glow Becky - Single/Video Review: Stand Up
06 Mar 2019 // by Corinne Rutherford
A five-piece alternative rock band from Auckland originally named after an archaeological find in Turkey (with suspected evidence of extra-terrestrial interaction), have released their new single and music video Stand Up. The now more pronounceable Glow Becky, previously Gobekli Tepe formed in late 2016 and are relative new comers to the NZ rock scene.
