Mishap - EP Reivew: Not Feeling This

01 May 2017 // A review by Kerry MB

Mishap are back with their second EP, Not Feeling This, and straightaway, I have to say, I really dig this band.

It’s my first introduction to these punk power pop trio from Wellington, and they have been kicking around since early last year (2016). They’ve amassed quite a following in that short time and their refreshing blend of old skool punk (think Green Day, Blink 182) with early 2000’s punk pop (Sum 41, New Found Glory) and you have the modern twist that is Mishap.

Infectious describes these guys in a nutshell. The four songs that make up Not Feeling This are insanely fun, vocally playful and incredibly well-crafted and tight. Come Over has to be one of the catchiest riffs that transports me back to my fifteen-year-old self in the early 2000’s. What a trip!

I love the energy and the way Mishap craft such simple and brilliant tunes that are perfect for Pogo dancing. This EP instantly makes me happy and I place my bets you’ll feel the same. The downfall to EP’s? It leaves you always wanting more.

I hope an album is somewhere in the future for these guys.

About Mishap

Mishap are a pop-punk trio from Wellington, formed in March 2016. They have a style that is somewhere between the simple, raw sound of 90s Green Day and Blink-182 and the tight, modern sound of bands such as The Story So Far, Neck Deep and State Champs.

In 2016, Mishap released their debut EP, Toaster with most popular tracks being Hey Allie and The Scrumpy Song. On these songs, Mishap have made a name for themselves among the New Zealand rock community, touring exhaustively around the North Island.

For Mishap, 2017 held the release of their second EP, Not Feeling This, two fully funded music videos and touring with pop punk pals Fire For Glory, Braves, Lookin Up, Barracks and heaps of other rad bands! Their first (professional) music video was released on the 16th of March for their single/title track of Not Feeling This.

Gig Review: Stretch To Mould @ The Welsh Dragon, Wellington - 30/03/2024
31 Mar 2024 // by Kerry MB
The building once described as Wellington’s ‘fondest inconvenient convenience in the land’ by one commentator, The Welsh Dragon Bar (and Scorpio’s Restaurant) has been known as a few different things throughout it’s nearly 100-year history. From the original public convenience for Wellingtonians and its tramways employees and passengers when it was first built in 1928, to a theatre prop space, tea house and café, and for many years now, a unique but tiny Taj Mahal looking music venue, in the middle of the road on Cambridge Terrace.

Pale Flag - EP Review: Imperium
29 Jan 2024 // by Kerry MB
With a lot of misconceptions about deathcore, it’d be easy to lump Pale Flag into “one of those bands” based on the sub-genre alone. Luckily, I love metal in the most extreme and Pale Flag just so happen to create deathcore of the finest, which makes it even better to enjoy.

Broke are a five-piece from Taranaki who love to jam and make great music together. What started out originally as a solo project by Hamish McDonald (lead guitar and vocals) and resulted in a self-written, recorded and produced debut album Momento Mori in 2021, eventually paved the way for the lads to make it official and start creating new music together.
