Tempist Fujit - Single Review: Midnight Train

This latest single from Tempist Fujit is best classified as an upbeat country pop rock piece. With a vibe that emanates in a similar way to Thirsty Merc's In The Summertime, Midnight Train has a meandering funky beat to it.
The guitars have a simple chord progression for rhythm, layered under a Donavon Frankenreiter-esque lead and solo, and also has a comparable sound to that of Zed and Powderfinger riffs.
The female vocals have strength and clarity, but perhaps a little too much of the focus in the song. The vocals sound disconnected from the instruments, and it affects the overall sound of it, drawing attention away from the other members of the group.
Overall, a refreshing track, with vocal clarity, and a funky blues guitar sound. An interesting time to release the track, as it feels much more of a laid-back summer tune, great for a road trip.
About Tempist Fujit
After creating a following with their hard hitting cover versions Tempist Fujit took some time off the road to go into the studio to record their debut album. They recently returned to the live scene for the release of their debut single Midnight Train, to a sold out audience, with much enthusiasm and praise from the crowd. They are now taking to the road again with the new original show.
Tempist Fujit have been privileged enough to perform alongside prominent NZ acts like The Feelers, Midnight Youth, Tahuna Breaks and Dave Dobbyn to name a few. “We can’t wait for people to hear the new music, very exciting times!” says the band.
