Tali - EP Review: Keta

09 Nov 2016 // A review by Freecell

Tali is always busy, non stop producing new music and material of all genres. A singer/songwriter and MC extraordinaire! She has recently released her new EP Keta (pronounced keh-tah), meaning when you have an image of someone or something inexplicably leap into your mind from your memories from your distant past.

A collaborative project with both Local and International producers and vocals from Tokyo Prose, Civilian Sol, ASKE, Kings and Bailey Wiley to name a few.

As soon as you press play you hear ambient atmospheric sounds her voice comes in followed by kick drum, rim shot with a half time dnb beat and a nice deep gritty sub bass Tali's lyrics seem to tie in all these different elements of random sounds to create an impressive but unpredictable song.

My second favourite track is Berlin, I love the soft synth keys, and vocal synth sounds on the intro. The exceptional lyrics are mesmerizing. The mix and production of this song is a piece of art from the first time you hear this track and it's instantly likable.

I Fly Over You is amazing!! From the modern sounding musical arrangement to synth sounds and off beat drumbeats, similar to Disclosure/Flume to the stunning vocal work of Tali's this song is very catchy. It also features guest vocals from Kings, which adds another level with his rhymes to an already flawless production. Very addictive.

The sound effects, samples and instruments used every track sounds so fresh and different, making this EP sound very interesting and unpredictable while raising the bar!

How To Get High hears Tali in MC mode on parts of this track, with a more mainstream sounding love song coming out of this incomparable production of greatness! Her singing style is experimental, soothing and stunning.

My favorite track on the EP is The Deeper, with a spaced out intro, eery synth sounds, the beat creeps in, her vocals remind me of Tiki Taane in some parts while the beat and music keeps on building. This is a great dance song with a Daft Punk kick drum at one point. When this song finally gets to the big breakdown it reminds me of a 90's soul house track with a hint of future beats. Sounding so different and exciting.

The Outro Parallel starts with bold keys and her lyrics taking you on a journey, leaping back to memories of someone from the past, maybe it could have been different, maybe you could have loved me? In a parallel universe a melancholy love song, soul felt and interesting bridge featuring Bailey Wiley.

At the end of this EP, I was left hanging. I wanted more because it was addictive and unique. This EP is a work of art, a masterpiece. There's still a lot more to see from this exceptionally talented artist - going from strength to strength Tali has gifted us with another awesome collection of music with a timeless element.
