Inhale - Album Review: Ten Cones

Masterton was a relatively quiet place, that is until local band Inhale arose from the smoke in 2015, with the release of their 2 track EP Chuck The Knives On featuring tendencies of slam and death amidst a raw display of core aggression.
A little over a year later we see the release of their debut album Ten Cones. With the addition of new members and an increasing demand from their fans, this album is destined to be a successful debut for the band.
The opening track to the album Just The One throws us into an eternal abyss of chug riffs and machine drumming designed to wake up the neighbours. Promptly followed by the slamming thump of 'Flies' and 'T2' which provides a solid backdrop.
We begin to see the serious humour behind this self-produced, nine-track album with movie sample rich and catchy throw downs like Inertia and House of Troy. The onslaught continues with my personal favourite on the album; (A)Gender displaying a vivid depth of vision into the influence and songwriting capabilities of this band.
Vocalist Paul Roberts combines a deathly screech with a blood churning low to produce a dynamic and haunting glaze over each track. Driven by the clever riffs of guitarist Ben Whipp who also produced and recorded most of the album himself.
This is a brilliant example of home grown New Zealand metal. With no traces of a low budget production, this is something for the underground scene to be proud of. This band has definitely got my attention and I highly recommend checking them out.
