Yumi Zouma - Album Review: Yoncalla

14 May 2016 // A review by Ria Loveder

What can I say… What a beautiful album!

Vocals that roll over you like waves, infectious tunes and hypnotic melodies.

Yoncalla is one of those albums that is a little collection of jewels, each one being something beautiful and unique when it stands alone, but when they are combined and listened to one after the other creates a surreal and calming effect.

This album is the perfect sound track to a chilled day at home.

I live in Taranaki, a place notorious for raining, and surprise surprise, these past three days it has done just that. So while sitting in my little Zen den making dream catchers, I chose this collection of little indie gems to accompany me while creating.

Stand outs on this album were Barricade and Text From Sweden.

Barricade is a wonderful amalgamation of guitar picking and synthetized melodies. Not to mention Christie’s angelic sounding voice traveling its way through my sound system in my room.

Text From Sweden was also a highlight. Looped synthetized tunes with a damn catchy chorus, with a lovely female, male duo mixed in. Gold!

If you are looking for an album to accompany you on those chilled evenings in, or those long road trips, I could not recommend this album enough. This album is filled with songs that will make you smile just by their infectious beat. Yumi Zouma should be chuffed with this album!

Annie J’s song Whenever You Leave Me is one that all teenagers can relate to; that relationship that you want to be in, but distance seems to come creeping in. The lyrics are mature beyond her years and at the young age of 15; she’s showing that she has the writing capabilities to produce mature, insightful music.

Ha the Unclear - Single Review: Wallace Line
08 Apr 2018 // by Ria Loveder
My music taste over the past year has changed a wee bit, and I am loving music that harks back to the 80's, and Ha the Unclear do just that. Their eccentric sound is filled with unconventional retro alt-pop music making them the perfect backing track to the New Zealand summer, pity we have just come into Autumn!
