David Sutton - 40 Album Review
Hot off the heels of his album, Cheese, David Sutton has released 40, ten tracks of upbeat, catchy and very easy listening songs that sound like a relic from my father's generation.
In a world where over produced is a prerequisite of commercial radio play, comes an album with instruments that actually sound real, all performed by David Sutton himself.
Tinged with Bob Dylan, the Stones and the Beatles and the sixties in general, 40 sounds better put together and mature than Sutton's previous outing. While I enjoyed Sutton's humour on Cheese (I mean it was called Cheese, and the opening track... ha.) I feel 40 comes across as a more professional release.
One of the real strengths of David Sutton's music is what you can't experience with the CD alone. I'm talking about the clever self-produced music videos on David Sutton's Youtube. Wellington locals will recognize a lot of the filming locations, and might even spot themselves in Sutton's video of this year's Newtown Festival. The videos gave me a feeling of what it means to be David that a picture or biography can't provide.
