Derty Sesh - Apology Accepted Album Review

26 Feb 2012 // A review by Dilemma

The sophmore release from Derty Sesh titled 'Apology Accepted' was released on Monday and with no where near the same backlash from his first release 'Sic Love.' In receiving this album I was excited to see the features and listened to I am Here first because Erakah was featured. Instantly, I felt this song was more mature and smoother than anything from the first album and felt drawn to the music, leaving all controversy and pre-conceived notions behind.

Working my way back to the beginning of the Album and following the journey and process that Derty Sesh AKA Nathan King wanted to portray, the title track 'Apology Accepted' starts with a lead of rap talking about his first album and his life. One of the lyrics in the rap talks about how 'this is Derty Sesh but you will see Nathan when this album is done' and each track represents a part of the journey.

Let me be feat Jae'O is a track about being the son of Mike King and forging his own way in the music industry. All the raps flow nicely through out the album, although there is a song Revenge seems very angry and erratic.

As a whole, this album is more understated than the last, with moments of sweet lyric and honest rap. From start to finish this album deserves to be given a chance to change your mind about Derty Sesh the controversial rapper and start to hear Nathan the musician.

She has won the Best Female DNB MC award a few times (3) and has just released her new album Wolves, which she describes as “electronic soul and gangsta jazz"!

Jayson Norris - Save My Soul EP Review
16 May 2014 // by Dilemma
New from Jayson Norris is the Save My Soul EP as part of NZ Music Month. If you are a fan of Kora style rock or Tiki Taane melodies then you will love this five-song EP, cleverly incorporating roots and the groove of mainstream guitar rock’n’soul to blur genres.

Estère - Estere Album Review
10 May 2014 // by Dilemma
Released as a free download via Bandcamp the debut EP from Wellington singer/songwriter/beatmaker/producer Estere is definitely unique in the NZ music scene. Self-described as “just a girl with an MPC” Estere works her equipment and the product is individualistic, raw and worthy of a listen this NZ Music Month.
