Antiform - Antiform – 'City in Exile' album review

03 Jun 2009 // A review by JohnS
A long awaited and a very hotly anticipated debut album release from Antiform has just hit the stores. The Auckland three piece consisting of brothers Josh and Luke Purcell with Brandon Spain have created this bass-drive ride for the mind. With some of NZ’s finest artists such as Julia Deans (Fur Patrol) Tiki Taane, Angelo Munro (Bleeders) and MC Twincam collaborating you know it’s going to be good. Unfortunate this album is not good; it’s outrageously over the top awesome.

This is a hard album to single out any one track as being the my favorite but this has not left my car since I got my sticky little fingers on it, except when the little gremlins have “borrowed” it without me seeing.. (Yes, I know who you are)

I can compare this album to other groups but we have all heard it before, but her goes…. If you do like the sounds of Pendulum, then you will thoroughly enjoy this album. It feels like a shot directly into the veins in your head, bringing vibrating shockwaves tingling up your back.

Do not miss out on this experience, Go out and buy it

About Antiform

The name Antiform has been on the lips and the turntables of Breakbeat and Drum and Bass pioneers for a lengthy amount of time already, but their latest achievements have made everyone wake up and take note. Antiform are a band of musicians, producers and DJ’s that produce and perform their unique fusion of breakbeat, rock, hip-hop, drum & bass, metal and contemporary styles of music to people the world over. Hailing from Auckland, Brothers Josh and Luke Purcell met Brendon Spain on the New Zealand DJ circuit and with a mutual interest in producing and DJ’ing electronic music, they eventually conceived Antiform in 2002. Their combined talents have taken them from a release on a local Breakbeat CD to the Hardcore Beats 3 compilation and being nominated for Best Breakthrough DJ at the Breakspoll 2008 awards in the UK, making them the first Kiwis ever to be nominated for this huge accolade.

Antiform's early projects with Auckland’s MC Twincam spawned It's All About which hit number three on bFM’s chart. In 2007 Antiform delivered Boombox, the track created major hype with Screwface remixing the tune for Hardcore Beats 3 and was signed by the UK’s biggest Breakbeat label, Hardcore Beats. Since then Antiform has done nothing short of skyrocket in popularity and are now know around the world as respected producers and musicians with a unique and highly acclaimed sound. Antiform have captured the attention of hugely influential producers such as The Freestylers, Freq Nasty, Ctrl Z, The Autobots, Affinity and many more.

Antiform have headlined many major festivals, completed a hugely successful Australasian tour, sold out every party for their single and EP releases and have been playing to swarms of partygoers on the New Zealand tour for Ends of the Earth of which they feature no less than three times on the album with Got To Be You, Grip and Crash. These 3 singles have each proved to be hugely successful worldwide holding top 10 positions in the charts of Amplifier and Beatport.com download websites for months as well as music videos for Crash and Got To Be You receiving vast amounts of rotation on music TV around the world.
