So, here we are again. The final muzic.net.nz newsletter for the year.
Next year marks 15 years for muzic.net.nz, and while it started with small beginnings, it has now evolved into an amazingly substantial website. With another new addition soon to join our family, coming up with a plan to keep muzic.net.nz going has meant we have had to make some very difficult decisions.
One of our decisions was to discontinue the newsletter... a newsletter which has been around since 2004 and has featured over 500 bands and musicians... however, after receiving an overwhelming amount of support for it to continue and an incredible person stepping forth to help out, we are now doing what we can to ensure the newsletter will be back next year. We'll keep you updated on our facebook page.
While some other changes are inevitable, we would like to assure you that muzic.net.nz will always exist in one form or another, and it will always be free.
One outstanding group of people that have supported us during the year is the muzic.net.nz team - Emma Ratuki, Sam Hill, Sean McCarthy, Jason McIver, Jesse Reeves, Amanda Ratcliffe, Matt Gardner, John Shearer, Peter-James Dries, Terry McIntosh, Aaron Smith, River Tucker, Alistar Wickens, Tony McDonald, Kerry Monaghan, Janise Kumar, Chris Chick and Annemarie Duff. We would like to thank them for all their awesome reviews, interviews and photos, and unwavering support.
We would also like to thank all the bands and musicians that featured in our newsletters as well as those we reviewed, interviewed and photographed; everyone that contributed towards our tour features and gig guide listings and everyone else who has given us their continued support.. you know who you are.
Most of all, we would like to thank you - the 8163 people who subscribe to this newsletter.
The muzic.net.nz team would like to wish you all a musical Christmas and a rocking New Years. May you all have some NZ music in your Christmas stockings!
~ Lisa and the muzic.net.nz team.
Formed in September 2013, The Funky North are three bro's from Kaikohe, Northland that create an organic acoustic hip hop style based on funky feel and good lyrics. We want to push the limits of our sound and genre within the parameters of very basic instrumentation; Djembe drum, 1 guitar, harmonica and 3 vocals.
The Funky North intends to do all of the things good music does; Entertain, make people dance, inform, celebrate and express feelings and ideas!
Our town and area (hell most of the world no doubt!) is struggling in so many ways - economically, socially, health, education etc etc and although The Funky North don't claim to have all the answers or ability to fix anything, we are proud and happy to be out there in a creative positive way, perhaps inspiring others around us or at least bringing smiles to dials!

ArtBox, providing gallery and studio spaces for visual artists, and BeatBox, offering rehearsal studios for musicians, will form part of the new Boxed Quarter on the corner of Madras and St Asaph Streets.
"Christchurch artists have shown remarkable initiative and innovation post-quake. Supporting them now by providing much-needed exhibition and rehearsal space will also help increase the vitality of the city," says Creative New Zealand’s Chief Executive, Stephen Wainwright.

(Melbourne) SONGS Music Publishing announced today that they have tapped Melbourne/Auckland-based music publisher Native Tongue to administer their roster of songwriters in Australia and New Zealand, after a heavily competitive process. The deal includes SONGS’ most recent signing, Lorde, aka Ella Yelich-O’Connor, whose debut album and single are major hits in the artist’s native New Zealand and in Australia.
SONGS Founder and CEO Matt Pincus said “Chris and Jaime Gough and Native Tongue, are top-tier creative publishers operating in a fully independent context. They own their own business and make music calls as they see them. We are thrilled to have teamed up with them to maximize the opportunities for all of our writers in Australia and New Zealand.”
