The Symphony of Screams - The Symphony of Screams Newsletter Interview

03 Aug 2008 // An interview by Shade
What is the best gig/event you have ever performed at, and why?

Rock2Wgtn, earlier this year, supporting Ozzy Osbourne, and Kiss.
Playing to over 40,000 people …what an experience… It's the gig that launched us!

What is your favourite NZ venue?

Bar Bodega in Wellington. Fantastic room, great atmosphere, and the venue puts a lot of work into promoting the gig. Also, good green room, and the bands are brilliantly looked after.

What can we expect to see from The Symphony of Screams over the next year?

More gigs, another tour in summer, release of our next single and video in October (Hand of Power) and we've already started recording the next album, which should be ready for end of Summer.

What other NZ musicians or bands would you like to see more of, and why?

Kelamist! Another North Shore Band, punk influences great guitar riffs and catchy lyrics. We've done a couple of gigs with them, and love em.

If you could, what rumour would you start about The Symphony of Screams?

'The Symphony of Screams', will be the band to watch.. The biggest musical export from NZ of all time. December we are being broken in Asia.. then the world!

What advice would you like to give to other aspiring musicians?

Hard work pays off. If you're serious about your art, Be prepared to put in the work. Be as self sufficient as possible. Have a product, i.e. album and or Video if you want to be taken seriously.. then promote the hell out of your selves…gig everywhere, and build up a local following….. then pray to what ever twisted gods you believe in!

About The Symphony of Screams

Auckland-based group The Symphony of Screams describe their sound as ‘grungy metal’, and to quote that bible of heavy, Kerrang! magazine, sound like “NZ Napalm who hammer it home all the way.”

The power and energy that TSOS bring to the stage is amply demonstrated by the fact that they were sought out by Capital C Productions to be the main New Zealand support act at Rock to Wellington, where fans of heavy numbering over 25,000 per night were treated to their brand of uncompromising rock assault.

Their debut album Heed to the Voices was originally an NZ-only independent release, which went down so well with fans that it was re-released worldwide in late 2012 by AllGood Absolute Alternative Records, garnering positive reviews pretty much across the board. "As good as it gets" to paraphrase but one.
