Unknown - Shayne Malone Newsletter Interview

08 Jun 2008 // An interview by Shade
What is the best gig/event you have ever performed at, and why?

I would have to say Shake The Lake, Hamilton in March. There were over 2500 people there and we were on right before OpShop. We hung out with Jason at a party afterwards and he is a great guy full of great advice. We sold a few albums and were flooded with messages and emails after the gig.

What is your favourite NZ venue?

I like Altitude in Hamilton. They are great there.

What can we expect to see from Shayne Malone over the next year?

We have an important showcase in May, and after this we hope a couple of great videos and more great shows, also the next album will be complete in a year from now, and whatever great opportunities are presented over that period.

What other NZ musicians or bands would you like to see more of, and why?

Atlas, OpShop and The Feelers. They are just great bands.

If you could, what rumour would you start about yourselves?

That we have sold 15,000,000 albums worldwide, are touring with Foo Fighters and have the highest views on youtube.com than any other artist in NZ (oops, that one is true! Haha Well one out of 3 ain’t bad).

What advice would you like to give to other aspiring musicians?

Be true to yourself and play what music you love to play, not to please anyone else. And write great songs, not just ok ones. Push yourself higher than the expectation line. We need more of this in this country.
