The Gridlock Project - Gridlock Newsletter Interview

25 May 2008 // An interview by Shade
What is the best gig/event you have ever performed at, and why?

The best gig we have performed at is by far our album launch at Whangarei in May 2007, it went off! Over 250 people crammed into the old Grand Hotel made for a very intimate show indeed, the locals turned out to support us big time.

What is your favourite NZ venue?

Our favourite NZ venue is that very same Hotel it has been loyal to us and us to it.

What can we expect to see from Gridlock over the next year?

The next year brings another definite video, lots of shows with a focus on festivals and we will also start recording our second album.

What other NZ musicians or bands would you like to see more of, and why?

We would like to see the emergence of alot more acts from the Northland area, there is so much untapped talent up here, I feel they just need some guidance and support.

If you could, what rumour would you start about yourselves?

A rumour we would start would be something like we were a reject band in the eighties and transported ourselves into the now or that we were the last band to perform on the love boat, that should get some positive results.

What advice would you like to give to other aspiring musicians?

Our advice to other aspiring musicians would be don't do it if you want to make money but definitely do it if you have a real passion for it.

About The Gridlock Project

The Gridlock Project (Formerly Gridlock) began in 2005 and was founded by original member Yimmy. So far they have released a self funded album titled 'And you Are?' which is described as Alternate, Rock with reggae.

Their music has been widely accepted and received well. For their hard work and new original sound they have received good reviews from Rip it Up, NZ Musician and Tear Away, all alluring to the fact that they could be heard on radio in the near future.

Album number 2 will be a solo effort from frontman Yimmy it is a collection of previously unrecorded material featuring musicians from Northland and some from outside the region.
