Pound For Pound Recordings is proud to welcome the new record Pound For Pound, a twelve-track collaboration between much loved music makers The Nextmen and the nine-piece dancefloor destroyers - Gentleman’s Dub Club. This is a musical masterclass in a uniquely UK tradition which blends dancehall, dub, ska, reggae, roots and rap, and delivers its kick through meticulously tight and precise production that’s soaked in swagger and sway.

“Stunning, brilliant new album” – David Rodigan, BBC 6Music”

As an expert exercise in dub from the masters of the genre, you can guarantee that this album will be stuck on repeat and the soundtrack to countless summers across the globe. Brought together through chance, this studio collaboration between The Nextmen and Gentleman’s Dub Club is effortless in its delivery, bringing with it a fresh twist to an already exciting and established sound. Both Gentleman’s Dub Club and The Nextmen have honed their crafts to the point of perfection, and Pound For Pound invites a weighty list of special guests to add their own flavours to the pot.

These names need next to no further navigation - Eva Lazarus, Kiko Bun, Joe Dukie (Fat Freddy’s Drop), Chali 2na (Jurassic 5), Hollie Cook,P Digsss (Shapeshifter), Gardna, J Man & Parly B – all masters in their own field who bring an undeniable level of quality to what is already a timeless record. From sweet sounds to plentiful low-end, the collaborative efforts on Pound For Pound results in some seriously boozy, banging joints.

We’re all aware that The Nextmen know a good groove having been at the forefront of UK hip hop for two decades. Releasing their own albums, setting clubs and festivals ablaze and working with everyone from ZTrip, Public Enemy, Wilkinson, The Pharcyde, Ms Dynamite, Groove Armada, Plan B, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Tippa Irie, Cutty Ranks and a million more, this duo are the doyens of the dancefloor. Nine-piece Gentleman’s Dub Club’s live shows are a legendary mix of unbridled talent, frenzied fun and infectious energy, reflecting their desire for a damn hot dubbed-out paradise of pure celebration. Their studio albums carry that same air of cool, embracing sounds so wild and free that their name is now synonymous with the dub scene worldwide.

When two iconic outfits enter the studio, the results are waited for with baited breaths; luckily for us, The Nextmen vs Gentleman’s Dub Club exceed all expectations, and then some. This is a collaboration that has produced ‘Pound For Pound’ – a record that is in equal parts filled with big tunes, easy on the ears and will lovingly linger on many, many soundsystems for the foreseeable future.
