Carnivorous Plant Society new album The New King out today

16 March 2018 - 0 Comments

To celebrate the release of their sophomore album The New King today, Auckland band Carnivorous Plant Society share the second single from the album, Don't Go Outside. Listen here.

"‘Don't Go Outside’ was written after I watched the documentary 'The Wolf Pack'. In this film, a controlling father won’t allow his children out of the house despite their numerous attempts at escape," says Finn Scholes.

"We are very fortunate to have Don McGlashan sing the part of the father and Tiny Ruins, along with Cass Mitchell and Siobhanne Thompson, sing the part of the trapped children."

"I have known Don for many years because we both play brass instruments, and brass players are all in a kind of club where we help each other out. We stick together to overcome the many obstacles of brass playing."

Carnivorous Plant Society is a project by five of Auckland's busiest musicians performing a genre they describe as 'Mexican fantasy music'. Formerly a strictly instrumental group, they welcome an extraordinary roster of guests for The New King. Read the full album announcement and credits here.

Music fans shouldn't miss the chance to hear the music live with Carnivorous Plant Society taking The New King on the road - the tour begins with an appearance at Titirangi Music Festival on 23 March.

The New King is out today on SpotifyBandcampiTunes and on CD at good record stores.
