Independent Music New Zealand (IMNZ) General Manager, Dylan Pellett, is thrilled to share the first three international speakers attending, “We are building another great line-up of speakers for this year’s GOING GLOBAL. I’ve met with many of those heading out to New Zealand and they are really interested about what we might have in our drinking water here in the South Pacific – with all the recent global attention being paid to our artists, it has them all wondering!”

With over 15 million social media followers, 6.5 million mobile and 10.5 million digital visitors, Billboard remains the go-to source of the powerful U.S. music industry, as it has been for 123 years. A Billboard Magazine journalist for more than a decade, Lars Brandle has been closely involved in music and writing since the early ‘90s and has a wealth of knowledge and stories to share.

Bandcamp is a direct-to-fan music streaming and purchasing platform that to date has directly made artists $228 million - $5.3 million in the last 30 days alone. Andrew Jervis, Chief Curator at Bandcamp, oversees label and artist outreach. He brings in music from around the world and will be keeping his eyes peeled at the seminars and showcases for up and coming talent.

Originating in 1980, 4AD is a highly regarded British independent record label which built its credibility with incredible signings including Bauhaus, Cocteau Twins, The Pixies, The Breeders, and more recently The National and NZ’s Aldous Harding (one of our Going Global alumni). Jane Abernethy, 4AD’s Director of A&R knew she wanted to work in for a record label when she was 14. As a scout she brought Bon Iver to 4AD, and her current signings include Grimes, The Lemon Twigs, & Pixx.

GOING GLOBAL MUSIC SUMMIT 2017 moves into its sixth year and continues to provide invaluable global business opportunities for the New Zealand music community: Artist showcases to key music industry representatives, upskilling seminars discussing the latest trends, and advice and anecdotes from international professionals via panel discussions and one-on-one meetings. This year’s conference will take place across the Roundhead Studios complex, in Newton, Auckland. Roundhead is an artist-focused location with internationally-recognised creative credentials and ambience. It’s simply the perfect spot in which to discuss music.

Dunedin musician Kane Strang is a recent Going Global success story with his 2015 showcase being a deal-sealer for U.S. record label, Dead Oceans (Mitski, Marlon Williams, Slowdive). Head honcho Phil Waldorf says “I was a huge fan of Kane’s music when I traveled to New Zealand for Going Global…It’s one thing to like a few songs you’ve heard on Bandcamp or Soundcloud, it’s another to see it live. It was an inspired, invigorating performance, and confirmed what I already loved in the recordings. We had to work with him.” Kane Strang released his sophomore album in June this year on globally-distributed Dead Oceans and has toured the U.S., U.K. and Europe, and will be re-embarking on another overseas tour in the coming months.

Going Global Music Summit 2017 is a rare opportunity for any local artist, manager, publicist, A&R, producer, music writer, record label and venue manager to connect with international booking agents, synch licensors, international media, PR experts, artist managers with international experience and those working for the fast-moving live and digital music platforms.
