Wellington instrumental band Hiboux release debut album

02 March 2017 - 0 Comments

Wellington post-rock outfit Hiboux have released their debut album Command The Earth To Swallow Me Up following a gruelling recording process.

The band has slowly been building a following over the last two years, culminating in opening slots for U.S bands Tortoise and The Brian Jonestown Massacre, as well as festival appearances at Tauranga’s Woodcock and Eyegum’s A Gathering in the Forest.

This album represents their first long-format attempt at the studio recording. Last year’s EP received radio play on the country’s alternative stations; including Wellington’s Radio Active.

The Hiboux sound has been compared to The Cure, Explosions in the Sky and Mogwai, with a strong melodic component and often complex layers of instrumentation. Hiboux will play shows to support this debut album in the major centres over the coming months.

The album’s six tracks range from the concussive and chaotic Standing Waves to the expansive, lilting Precession which concludes the album. Expect wide dynamics, soundscapes and melodic riffs a-plenty.

Command The Earth To Swallow Me Up is now available for download from https://hibouxband.bandcamp.com/ with a limited run of Digipaks available at shows.
