Cut Off Your Hands Release First Single In Five Years

16 November 2016 - 0 Comments

The kings of Auckland post-punk Cut Off Your Hands release their first single in five years with Hate Somebody, a track that comments on anti-social, anti-community behaviour, touching on some of the vitriolic themes of their first album You and I.

Hate Somebody was recorded and mixed by Jeremy Toy at his Spare Room Studios at the LAB and mastered by Dave Cooley (M-83, Common, J-Dilla, Matthew Dear, Die! Die! Die!). This is the first release of a planned EP, due for release in 2017.

They never disbanded, but following two albums and international tours with the likes of indie darlings Foals, the four-piece (Nick Johnston, Philip Hadfield, Brent Harris and Jonathan Lee) has been largely dormant since releasing the critically acclaimed Hollow in 2011, with a handful of live shows most years and a focus on new careers and new bands.

Laneway Festival Co-Promoter Mark Kneebone says he’s elated to have Cut Off Your Hands back on the Laneway Festival bill.

“Cut Off Your Hands were part of Laneway Festival before Laneway even came to New Zealand, and then the first ever festival here in 2010. It’s fitting to welcome back these favourite sons of Laneway as they finally release new music. I’m a huge fan of the band, and Hate Somebody is an excellent track."

Hate Somebody is available on Bandcamp.

Cut Off Your Hands play Laneway Festival 2017 on Auckland Anniversary Day at Albert Park precinct. Tickets are on sale now at lanewayfestival.co.nz.
